Tharangam is the crime-comedy movie which features Tovino Thomas in the lead role. Newcomer Dominic Arun has directed the movie and co-written it, along with Anil Narayanan. Tharangam is directed by actor Dhanush, for Wunderbar Films. Tharangam Plot Padmanabhan aka Pappan and Joy are two policemen, who work together. They are forced to join an unauthorized mission, by their superior officer. But, both of them get suspended from the police force, after an unfortunate incident. How Pappan and Joy get out of the situation, and what happens in their lives, thickens the plot of Tharangam. Cast & Crew Tovino Thomas As Padmanabhan Tovino Thomas, who appears as Padmanabhan aka Pappu, has played his role to near perfection. The actor especially scores in the comical sequences, with his exceptional performance. Script & Direction: Dominic Arun Dominic Arun has made a decent debut, by presenting a different comical thriller. As the director mentioned earlier, the Tharangam has taken inspiration from the vintage Priyadarshan films, especially in climax. The way fantasy elements are used in the movie deserves appreciation. When it comes to the script, Dominic Arun and co-writer Anil Narayanan have done a good job. Even though the movie has all the elements to be a perfect crime-comedy, it lacks clarity at certain points. But in total, the duo has succeeded in making the movie an extremely fresh and unique experience. Santhy Balachandran As Malu Santhy Balachandran makes a great debut, by playing Pappan's love interest Malu, in the movie. Even though her role is minimal, she has succeeded in impressing with some good acting moments. Balu Varghese As Joy Balu Varghese has delivered a fantastic performance as Joy, Pappan's close friend and colleague. The actor once again proves his mettle in handling comical roles, in the movie. Neha Iyer As Omana Varghese Actress-model Neha Iyer has made a grand debut, by playing the antagonist Omana Varghese. She had delivered a brilliant performance as the authoritative Omana. Unni Mukundan As Raghu Unni Mukundan has made an extended cameo in the movie, by essaying the role of Raghu. Even though it was a short appearance, the actor has succeeded in making a mark with his performance. Supporting Cast The entire supporting cast, including Manoj K Jayan, Shammi Thilakan, Vijayaraghavan, Saiju Kurup, Dileesh Pothan, Sijoy Varghese, etc., have essayed their respective roles to near perfection. Cinematography: Deepak D Menon Deepak D Menon, the cinematographer has made a mark with his exceptional visualization, in the movie. The different colour patterns and lighting used in the cinematography deserve a special mention. Editing: Sreenath S Editor Sreenath S has done a pretty neat job, by making the movie an engaging watch. Music: Ashwin Renju Music by newcomer Ashwin Renju is one of the major highlights. While the background score creates the perfect mood for the movie, songs are also equally impressive. Verdict A totally fresh and unique comical thriller, which will definitely satisfy the audiences who don't mind trying something different.

കലാമൂല്യവും പ്രേക്ഷകപ്രീതിയും ഒരുപോലെ നേടിയ 'വേലയില്ല പട്ടതാരി', 'കാക്ക മുട്ടെ', 'വിസാരനൈ' തുടങ്ങിയ തമിഴ് സിനിമകൾ നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച ധനുഷിന്റെ വണ്ടര്‍ബാര്‍ ഫിലിമിസ്ന്റെ ആദ്യ മലയാള സംരഭമാണ് തരംഗം. ടോവിനോ തോമസ് നായകനാകുന്ന ചിത്രത്തില്‍ നവാഗതനായ ഡോമിനിക് അരുണ്‍ ആണ് സംവിധാനം. ബ്ലാക്ക് ഹ്യൂമറിന്റെ മേമ്പൊടിയോടെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ത്രില്ലര്‍ സ്വഭാവം ഉള്‍കൊള്ളുന്ന ഈ സിനിമയുടെ കഥയും തിരക്കഥയും അരുണ്‍ ഡൊമിനിക്കും അനില്‍ നാരായണനും ചേർന്നാണ്. ഇരുവരും ഉണ്ണി മുകുന്ദൻ നായകനായ 'സ്റ്റൈല്‍' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിന് വേണ്ടി തിരക്കഥ നിര്‍വ്വഹിച്ചിരുന്നു. യൂടൂബില്‍ വളരെയധികം നിരൂപക പ്രശംസകൾ നേടിയ 'മൃ'ത്യുഞ്ജയം എന്ന ഷോര്‍ട്ട് ഫിലിമിന്റെ അണിയറ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകരുടെ ആദ്യസിനിമ എന്ന ലേബലും തരംഗത്തിനുണ്ട്. തരംഗത്തിലെ ടെക്‌നിക്കൽ മേഖലകൾ മുഴുവൻ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത് പുതുമുഖങ്ങൾ ആണെന്നാണ്‌ മറ്റൊരു ശ്രദ്ധേയ കാര്യം.
സത്യൻ അന്തികാടിന്റെ സംവിധാനത്തിൽ പിറന്ന റഹ്മാനും മോഹൻലാലും ഒരുമിച്ച് അഭിനയിച്ച പപ്പൻ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട പപ്പൻ എന്ന പഴയകാല സിനിമയെ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കും വിധമാണ് തരംഗത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം. പറുദീസയിൽ കഴിയുന്ന പവിത്രൻ എന്ന കള്ളന്റെ സന്തതിപരമ്പയെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റി, വളരെ രസകരമായി ഹാസ്യവും ആക്ഷനും ചേർത്താണ് കഥയുടെ വികസനം. എഡിറ്റിംഗിലും ക്യാമറ വിശ്വൽസിലുമൊക്കെ പുതുമ പാരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. പാശ്ചാത്യ സിനിമകളിൽ പരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സംഗീതത്തിനോട് സാദൃശ്യമുള്ളതും പുതുമ തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുമായ സംഗീതമാണ് അശ്വിൻ രഞ്ചു നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
പദ്മനാഭൻ അഥവാ പപ്പൻ, ട്രാഫിക്ക് വകുപ്പിലെ ഒരു പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ ആണ്. സുഹൃത്തും സഹപ്രവർത്തകനുമായ ജോയി എന്ന ചെറുപ്പക്കാരനും പപ്പനും തങ്ങളുടെ സുപ്രധാനമായ ഒരു കേസ് അന്വേഷണ വീഴ്ചയ്ക്കിടയിൽ സസ്‌പെൻഷൻ ലഭിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. അതേ തുടർന്ന് സംഭവിക്കുന്ന നിരവധി സബ് പ്ലോട്ടുകളിൽ നിന്നാണ് കഥയുടെ ഒഴുക്ക്. പപ്പനായി ടോവിനോ തോമസും ജോയിയായി ബാലു വർഗീസും വേഷമിടുന്നു. ലിവിങ് ടുഗെദർ റിലേഷനിൽ, പപ്പന്റെ സ്ത്രീസുഹൃത്തായി പുതുമുഖതാരം ശാന്തി ബാലചന്ദ്രൻ, സിജു എന്ന നാടകനടനും കള്ളക്കടത്ത് ഡീലറുമായ സൈജു കുറുപ്പ്, അലൻസിയർ,നേഹ അയ്യർ തുടങ്ങിയവരാണ് മറ്റു അഭിനേതാക്കൾ. കഥയുടെ അവസാന ഭാഗത്ത് മലയാള സിനിമയിലെ ഒരു പ്രമുഖ താരം വില്ലൻ വേഷത്തിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത് തീയറ്ററിൽ ആരവങ്ങളുൾയർത്തി.
എന്തുകൊണ്ടും പുതുമ ആവശ്യപെടാവുന്ന ഒരു തിരക്കഥ തന്നെയാണ് തരംഗത്തിൽ നട്ടെല്ല്. മികച്ച കോമ്പോസിഷനുകൾ കൊണ്ട് പറുദീസ രംഗങ്ങൾ സിനിമയുടെ മാറ്റു കൂട്ടുന്നു. ഒരു ഗാനരംഗമേ സിനിമയിൽ ഉള്ളുവെങ്കിലും പ്രക്ഷേകനെ തെല്ലും നിരാശപ്പെടുത്തുകയോ, മുഷിപ്പിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യാതെ കഥ പറഞ്ഞു പോകാൻ സംവിധായാകന് സാധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്ളൈമാക്‌സ് രംഗങ്ങളിൽ സിനിമയിലെ മുഴുവൻ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുവരുകയും, തമ്മിലടിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് തോണ്ണൂറുകളിലെ പ്രിയദർശൻ സിനിമകളുടെ ഒരു ട്രെൻഡ് മാർക്ക് ആരുന്നു. അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ചില ഹാസ്യ സംഘടനങ്ങളെ അനുസമരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ഏച്ചുകെട്ടലായി അനുഭവപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യാം. എങ്കിലും ക്ളീഷേ തൊട്ടു തീണ്ടാത്ത സംഭാഷണങ്ങളാലും, കഥാസന്ദര്ഭങ്ങളാലും സമ്പന്നമാണ് തരംഗം. മലയാള സിനിമയിൽ ഒരു തരംഗം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാൻ ശേഷിയുള്ള ഇത്തരമൊരു എക്‌സിപിരിമെന്റൽ സിനിമയെടുക്കാൻ ധൈര്യം കാട്ടിയ ഡൊമിനിക്ക് അരുൺ എന്ന സംവിധായകൻ അഭിനന്ദനമർഹിക്കുന്നു.
