Bloodshot

REVIEW:   With an indestructible body and brute strength, the slain US Marine Ray Garrison is revived as ‘Bloodshot’ - a biotech killing machine like no other. Dr. Emil Harting (Guy Pearce) breathes new life into Garrison’s body but robs him of all the memories of his past life. A life that is cut short by a psycho killer, who kills Ray’s wife Gina Garrison (Talulah Riley) in cold blood, before killing him too. Based on the Valiant Comics character with the same name, ‘Bloodshot’ sets off with a solid premise for a revenge drama. Add to that, a wholesome dose of sci-fi tropes, give the narrative a thrilling leap of imagination. Like the microscopic ‘nanites’ running in Ray’s bloodstream that can magically heal fatal injuries and give him unbridled power. Within seconds, he can download and learn manuals to fly an aircraft just as easily as he can punch down concrete pillars. Dr Harting’s other team members are also equipped with cutting-edge bionic gear that give them ex

Dharala Prabhu

Dharala Prabhu Movie Synopsis:   A shrewd fertility clinic owner convinces an unemployed and happy-go-lucky guy to become a sperm donor. But little did the latter know that it would land him in trouble post his marriage. Dharala Prabhu Movie Review:   Remaking a Hindi movie which dealt with a sensitive and innovative subject to Tamil isn’t an easy task. To narrate a story about sperm donation convincingly and making required changes from Vicky Donor to suit Tamil nativity needs a fine execution, and director Krishna Marimuthu has succeeded in it to a good extent. The plot begins with Kannadasan (Vivekh), a veteran doctor who runs a fertility clinic in Parry’s Corner, searching for a healthy sperm donor for his clients who come up with weird demands. After facing several odds, he comes across Prabhu (Harish Kalyan), a care-free youngster whose world revolves around football, mother and grandmother. Kannadasan approaches Prabhu to be a sperm donor and explains the need to do it

Walter

Walter Movie Synopsis:   A cop, who sets out to solve the mysterious death of infants in Kumbakonam, realises that a few bigwigs are behind the crime. Walter Movie Review:   Like many Kollywood thrillers, Walter is a cat-and-mouse cop story between a sincere cop and a well-reputed person in the society. A few minutes into the film, Sibiraj, who plays the titular role as a cop, gets the mandatory, yet routine hero introduction scene when a protest turns violent in Kumbakonam. Later, he takes up the case of a couple who seeks his help to find their newborn baby. Walter suspects foul play when he come across similar cases, and sets out to investigate the crimes, accompanied by his subordinate (Charlie). Meanwhile, the ego clash between Eswara Moorthy (Bava Chelladurai), a leading politician in the town, and Balu (Samuthirakani), who is considered to be his successor, intensifies. Their ego clash brings Balu’s friend Arjun (Natty), who is linked to the kids who have gone mis

Angrezi Medium

Angrezi Medium Story:   Champak Bansal (Irrfan) is a simple, small-town businessman – one of the owner's of Ghasitaram sweet shop chain – who’s leading a comfortable life with his teenage daughter, Tarika (Radhika Madan). But, Tarika has big dreams – of graduating from a recognised university in London. With little means to fulfil his daughter’s ambition, how far will the father go to ensure Tarika realises her 'videshi aspirations'? Angrezi Medium Review:   Born and raised in Udaipur (Rajasthan), Champak’s world pretty much revolves around his daily bickering with his other Ghasitaram brother, Gopi (Deepak Dobriyal), and caring for his only daughter, Tarika, who’s all set to graduate high school and embark on another academic journey. But, unlike her father, she doesn’t want to limit her dreams to the place she has grown up in; instead, she wants to explore what lies outside of her small world. Unaware of what's ahead, Champak gives in to his daughter's wis

Prema Pipasi

Story:   Prema Pipasi is the story of a guy (GPS) who cheats on and sleeps with multiple women to find his ‘one true love’. What happens when he meets his old girlfriend (Kapilakshi Malhotra)? Review:   Love stories have evolved a lot over the decades, also giving life to many stars who were once underdogs. However, the current crop of small films makes one wonder where the love is in the story. It is especially traumatising to see the director of this particular tale treat women the way he does and glorify an alcoholic man who stalks, gropes, abuses and forces women. Our ‘hero’ in the tale even goes a step ahead and begins threatening women to sleep with him. Literally that’s all the first half of the film holds – a man only referred to as ‘bava’ exploiting multiple women. And just so you don’t feel he’s too disgusting, the women are all shown as gold diggers, as if that makes it better. What’s even worse is how you’re expected to believe his cheap techniques and cringe-worthy

Story:  Two elf brothers embark on an adventurous journey to bring their dead father back to life just for a day through magic. How far will they succeed? Review:  Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Chris Pratt) are the two teenage elves living with their mother Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) in New Mushroomton. It’s a fantasy world where technology has replaced magic in the lives of its unique and mythical inhabitants. While Ian is socially awkward and low on confidence, his elder brother is loud and imposing with his love for magic and the old world charm. Just before Ian’s sixteenth birthday, the boys receive a wizard staff from their dead father that can bring him back for 24 hours. This sets them off on an emotional yet exciting and adventurous journey that is full of magic and madness. Director Dan Scanlon starts slow by giving us a peek into the now ordinary lives of these extraordinary creatures. But once the adventure begins, there’s barely a dull moment. Even with all

Baaghi 3

STORY:   Fiercely protective of his elder brother Vikram (Riteish Deshmukh), Ronnie (Tiger Shroff) goes after a dreaded terrorist group in Syria to save him. Can he bring back his brother alive? REVIEW:   Rippling muscles, six-pack abs and a chiseled face. Meet Ronnie - the handsome hunk whose only job is to magically appear from thin air whenever his elder brother Vikram is in trouble. He will bash up the bad guys to a pulp and go back to minding his own business. But in a sudden twist, Vikram is kidnapped by a terrorist group called Jaish-e-Lashkar in Syria and Ronnie sets off on a rescue mission.   Director Ahmed Khan throws in every trick in the book to make ‘Baaghi 3’ an action entertainer with elements that highlight his leading man’s brute force and deadly machismo. Tiger Shroff, who is clearly one of Bollywood’s most bankable action stars, packs quite a punch in the high-octane action scenes (directed by Ram-Laxman and Kecha Khampadkee). His perfect body and attitude m

Kaamyaab

STORY:  Back in the 80s and 90s, Sudheer (Sanjay Mishra) was an ‘aloo’ – a moniker given to character actors – and while he has enjoyed his fair share of popularity for his larger-than-life roles, Sudheer is now a recluse. However, an unsuccessful video interview with the media stirs up old memories and instils a new ray of hope in his heart, to reach a new benchmark and face the camera, even if it is for one last time. REVIEW:  Once a household name, and known for his eccentric portrayal of some of the most outlandish characters Indian cinema has ever witnessed in the golden era of Bollywood, Sudheer knows he’s been moderately famous. But, ‘the old man’ has now accepted his fate – his prime days, as a character artiste, are long over. A widower, living alone in his family home and drowning himself in alcohol, Sudheer shows very little interest when an enthusiastic broadcast journalist shows up for an interview with the ‘Forgotten Stars of Bollywood’. The journalist also r
