Saaho

Billed as India's biggest action entertainer, Saaho is all about the feud among a few members of world's biggest crime syndicate, based out of Waaji city, somewhere away from India. Some of the over ambitious and brutal men (and a woman) of the gang finish off Roy (Jackie Shroff), their leader, in order to obtain a secret black box through which they aspire to become billionaires. Meanwhile, cops in India are after a smart thief (Neil Nitin Mukesh) who looted two lakh crore rupees. The team is headed by Ashok (Prabhas) and Amrita (Shraddha Kapoor). After thorough investigation, it's revealed that there's a link between the huge sum and Waaji city. The arrival of Vishwa (Arun Vijay), the son of Roy, makes the plot more intriguing as he sets out to find his father's murderer and the lost money in India. A movie made on such a grand scale with numerous actors needs a gripping screenplay and convincing characterisations, and that's exactly what Saaho lacks. There

Mayuran

Mayuran Movie Synopsis:  A college student locks horns with a dreaded gangster after getting to know that his friend was killed by the latter. Mayuran Movie Review:  Mayuran begins with its protagonist (Anjan Dev), a college student, searching for his friend, who has been missing from their hostel. After a while, he gets to know that the latter has been kidnapped by a dreaded gangster (Vela Ramamurthy) and his henchmen. But he realises that his opponent is too big for him and hatches plans to defeat him. How he takes on the baddies forms the rest of the story. One positive aspect of the film is the convincing performances of the artistes. The brief confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist isn’t bad, but the gang wars lack depth and leave no impact. On the whole, the movie lacks an emotional connect and smart writing. The making, too, falls short in many places. Home   சினிà®®ா   மயூரன் விமர்சனம் மயூரன் விமர்சனம் AUG 30, 2019 mayuran-review மயூரன் என்à®±ால் ‘ உ

Sixer

A protagonist who deals with night blindness – he is clueless about the world after 6pm in the evening, to be precise… A comedy based on this concept provides plenty of opportunities to engage the audience by evoking laughter. Directed by Chachi, Sixer has a few scenes which are worked on the protagonist’s inability. The question is whether those are enough to entertain the viewers for more than two hours. Aadhi (Vaibhav), who hails from a middle-class family, suffers from nyctalopia, and hence, ensures he reaches back home before 6pm. His life, which includes father, mother and a friend, is all about the remaining 12 hours. One day, Aadhi realises that he can’t return home before the cut-off time and asks his friend to pick him up at a place where a protest, which he is not aware of, is taking place. A politician with a criminal record (RNR Manohar), against whom the protest happens, misconstrues Aadhi to be its leader, and goes after his life. After knowing the issue, an enrage

Mei

Mei is the latest film to join the list of medical thrillers in Tamil. The story begins with a young girl who goes missing, following which her father (Charle) lodges a complaint to Karunakaran (Ajay Ghosh), a corrupt cop. As the senior cops aren't satisfied with the way investigation is progressing, they ask Muthu (Kishore) to take up the case. Meanwhile, Abinav Chandran (Nicky Sundaram), a US-returned aspiring doctor, is chased by police when a dreaded medical racket accuses him for the reason behind the death of a medical shop employee. He's aided by Mithra (Aishwarya Rajesh), a medical representative. How Muthu nabs the racket and links Abinav's case and the missing girl forms the rest. There's an interesting angle which connects Muthu and the missing girl, too. The story and characters look too good on paper with some twists and a few engaging sequences. The characters essayed by the antagonists and Charle are also etched decently. Their performances, too, are c

Kennedy Club

One could easily guess a few sequences of Kennedy Club after watching its teaser or trailer. Several sports films of this fashion have been made in different languages, and hence, what makes such a movie intriguing is the way the story is packaged. Suseinthiran seems to have chosen a safe game - a familiar storyline with girls' kabaddi as the backdrop. How they tackle various challenges under the coaching of Muruganandam (Sasikumar) and senior coach Savarimuthu (Bharathiraja) forms the story. The characters of girls, hailing from economically weaker families, are decently etched and we are able to empathise with them. Their family issues, which involve parents denying them permission to participate in kabaddi matches, do engage the viewers. Sasikumar puts up a good performance as the concerned coach while Bharathiraja goes overboard at times. Wat the film lacks is a strong emotional connect and inclusion of new elements which such movies in the past haven't dealt with. The f

Bakrid

. Bakrid Movie Review:  Humans may or may not stay true to their fellow beings, but animals do adore humans unconditionally – this is what Jagadeesan Subbu tries to convey through his film, which has aptly been titled as Bakrid. The movie begins with a dejected Ratnam (Vikranth) who is desperate to get loan to begin farming. Upon his friend’s (Dinesh Prabhakar) advice, he seeks help from a moneylender, who is preparing for Bakrid celebrations. Ratnam gets the money and also a baby camel unexpectedly. Once he begins farming, he, along with his family, which includes his wife Geeta (Vasundhara) and daughter (Shrutika), starts rearing the camel apart from the cows they bought. The camel, which spends almost a year with them, starts developing health issues because of which a veterinary doctor advises Ratnam to leave it in a desert. So, he sets out to Rajasthan in a lorry with the help of two people, but faces a series of hardships after entering Maharashtra. How the trio bears the

Comali

Comali Story:  A youngster in his mid-30s goes through a series of struggles after coming to terms with the fact that he was in coma for 16 years Comali ComaliReview:  First things first - Comali is a comedy movie, which has several sequences which lack logic. But as the makers have billed it as a fun and 'no-brainer' movie, those sequences turn out to be harmless on screen. The film starts off with Ravi's (Jayam Ravi) voice over as his growth from a small school boy in 80s to a plus two student in late 90s, is presented in an engaging way, thank to his combination scenes with Yogi Babu. Like most of the Tamil Film heroes, Ravi falls in love with his classmate Nikita (Samyuktha Hegde) at the very first sight. After a few days, he gifts her an idol which he considers close to his heart, following which, an incident occurs which leads him to coma stage for a decade-and-a-half. Ravi, who wakes up after these many years in 21st century, takes time to cop up with the reality
