2COUNTRIES

2 Countries is Sunil’s last chance to score a hit at the box office. The film which is directed by N Shankar has hit the screens today. Let’s see whether Sunil gets his much needed hit or not. Story:- Ullaas(Sunil) is a cunning guy who can go to any extent for money. One fine day, he cheats a priest and redirects an NRI match which is supposed to go to a known person in his village. He manages everything and finally ties the knot with Laya(Manisha Raj). The twist in the tale arises when Ullaas comes to know that the NRI girl he married is a complete alcoholic. Rest of the story is as to how Sunil manages to get his problematic wife back on track. Plus Points:- Production values of the film are pretty good as half of the film is shot in the US. Heroine Manisha Raj makes an impressive debut as she looks quite beautiful and even performs well in her role of an NRI. Some comedy featuring Srinivasa Reddy and Prudhvi impresses in bits and pieces. Sunil is just about okay in hi

ULKUTHU

MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A stranger comes to a coastal village and gets into a tiff with the local gangster and his son MOVIE REVIEW: Like his debut film, Thirudan Police, Caarthick Raju's Ulkuthu is a blend of two genres. It is a revenge story, involving gangsters, and set against the backdrop of a coastal town. And, just like he did with Thirudan Police, the director tells this story largely as a comedy. As in that film, he utilises Balasaravanan every time to lighten the mood, even while ensuring that the gravity of the situation doesn't get lost. Balasaravanan plays Sura Shankar, a fishmonger, who tries to pass off as the locality's big shot. Into his life enters Raja (Dinesh), who tells him that he is the son of a rich man who has walked out his family. Deciding that the educated, rich guy could be a suitor for his sister, Kadalarasi (Nandita), Sura Shankar becomes his friend. However, when Raja hits the underling of Saravanan (Dhilip Subbarayan, impressive), the son o

Ballloon

SYNOPSIS: A filmmaker goes to check out a haunted house in Ooty to seek inspiration for a horror film, not realising that the place has a connection with his past. REVIEW: Balloon doesn't break any new ground in the horror genre, but it adapts a bunch of the genre's tropes — possessed kid, exorcism, revenge-seeking ghost and the like — to give us a solid horror film. In fact, right in the title credits, director Sinish lists out the films that inspired his — from Mama and The Conjuring to Poltergeist and It. This, in fact, feels like a wise strategy, because this open admission warms us up to the film's derivativeness. And to Sinish's credits, he has adapted elements from these films in a way that makes his film feel fresh. The set-up, in fact, feels autobiographical. An aspiring filmmaker who wants to make his debut film is advised by a producer to set his realistic script aside and make a horror film first. And so, the young man, Jeevanandham (Jai) sets out

MASTERPIECE

MASTERPIECE STORY: The campus of Travancore Maharajas College is always tense because of animosity between two opposing group of students. While they are busy with their rivalries, something happens on the campus that disrupts the atmosphere further. A new professor lands on the campus and he is like no other they have encountered, so far. MASTERPIECE REVIEW: It starts off as a campus caper, aspires to be an investigative thriller and wraps up baffling the viewers as to why our standards of cinema viewing are underestimated these days. A festival release, Masterpiece is hardly a film that can wear such a name with integrity. An interfusion of predictable story patterns, unconvincing ideas and half-baked characters, it hardly does justice to the star cast it boasts of. The plot of the movie is set in Travancore Maharajas College, a typical campus that we have seen time and again in movies, even in the past few months. It has two warring factions - Real Fighters and Royal Warri

VIMANAM

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible TE Lawrence's words in the book Seven Pillars of Wisdom aptly describes the story of a young man Venkidi (Prithviraj) from Kerala who dreams of flying in a self-made airplane. In life, it is hard to find your true passion, but the path towards the fulfillment of the dream is a harder voyage. Vimaanam is about the struggles Venkidi goes through in his attempt to touch the sky and to emerge victorious in love. Does he finally fly? Or do his efforts go in vain? Watch the movie and find out. Produced by Listin Stephen and directed by debutante Pradeep M Nair, Vimaanam has Prithviraj, Durga Krishna, Alencier, Sudheer Karamana and Anarkali Marikar playing the lead roles. Everyone has chipped in their best, especially Prithviraj wh

TUMHARI SULU

TUMHARI SULU STORY: A happy-go-lucky Mumbai suburban housewife Sulochana, fondly known as Sulu, lands the role of a night RJ, resulting in drastic changes to her routine life. TUMHARI SULU REVIEW: There's a been a recent spate of Bollywood movies devoid of its typical glamorous sheen with a focus on the lives of middle-class suburban Indian households. Ad director turned filmmaker Suresh Triveni takes this into consideration in his big screen debut while writing the story around Vidya Balan as Sulochana or 'Sulu', a housewife whose achievements aren't typically noteworthy, but that doesn't stop her from dreaming big. When presented with a rare opportunity, her subsequent decisions & actions affect her husband, son and immediate family. As a testament to Triveni's ability as a writer, Sulu doesn't lose her identity as she begins to experience the corporate media life as an RJ, walking the tightrope between her overnight fame and managing her domes

ARUVI

ARUVI REVIEW: Aruvi is a superbly written drama centred around a unique character that unfolds as a thriller, a black comedy, an awareness movie, and a tragedy. The film is so effortlessly crowd-pleasing — and also tremendously moving. This is, by far, the most unconventional among the recent new-age films, with a bravura lead performance by Aditi Balan. It is certainly one of the most sparkling acting debuts Tamil cinema has seen in a while, and Aditi beautifully realises the complex nature of the character without trying hard to make her Aruvi endearing. Even in the final portions, when there are tragic tones, the actress doesn't resort to melodrama and performs this role in a matter-of-fact manner. The actress is ably guided by the direction of Arun Prabu Purushothaman, who joins the list of first-rate debutant directors we have got this year. If his writing displays a sensitivity that you don't often see in a first-time filmmaker, there is flair in his filmmaking tha

MIDDLE CLASS ABBAYI

MIDDLE CLASS ABBAYI STORY: Nani's (Nani) brother (Rajeev Kanakala) and his friends are his world. But he shares a love-hate relationship with his sister-in-law Jyothi (Bhumika Chawla). What happens when Shiva (Vijay Varma) threatens his family, is what 'MCA' is all about. MIDDLE CLASS ABBAYI REVIEW: Nani (Nani) is the RX 100-throttling 'middle class abbayi' with family values and sentimental emotions running off the chart. He's forced to move to Warangal to stay with his sister-in-law, Jyothi (Bhumika Chawla) while his brother is working in Delhi. Nani believes her to be the devil incarnate, the unnecessary wedge between him and his brother. But what happens when Jyothi gets on the wrong side of the local baddie Shiva (Vijay Varma) and Nani's family is threatened? 'MCA' (Middle Class Abbayi) is a film that starts off on an extremely light note. The brother-in-law stuck with the vadina he hates, but being forced to carry out household chores

SATHYA

SATHYA SYNOPSIS: An IT employee, who works in Australia, gets a call from his ex-lover, asking him to help her find her missing daughter. The former has a tough time ahead when he comes to know about some shocking revelations SATHYA REVIEW: Remaking an intense suspense thriller isn't an easy job. Kshanam, a Tollywood film which released almost two years ago, was lauded for its neatly arranged intriguing sequences. When a Tamil version of the film was announced, with a different cast altogether, a faithful attempt, if not more, is what one obviously expected. Sathya (Sibiraj) and Swetha (Remya), who work in the same company, fall in love with each other though the latter's father (Nizhalgal Ravi) wants her daughter to get married to someone who is more eligible. A slew of unexpected turn of events separate them - a few years later, Swetha is married and has a kid, while Sathya leads a not-so-happy life in Australia. One fine day, Sathya gets a call from Swetha, pleading

HELLO

Avinash/Seenu (Akhil) is a street urchin brought up by his loving adoptive parents Saru (Ramya Krishnan) and Prakash (Jagapathi Babu). The love of his life is the girl he meets during childhood Junnu/Priya (Kalyani), whom fate had snatched away from him. Fourteen long years and they still wait for the day they will meet again. Will destiny help them? HELLO! REVIEW: Shah Rukh Khan once said in his hit film 'Om Shanti Om' - Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho ... to puri kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai. And 'Hello' is a magical case study on the same; how the whole universe conspires to bring two people together when they're meant to be. Avinash/Seenu (Akhil) meets Junnu/Priya (Kalyani) during childhood and their love is simple and pure. He loves how her bangles jingle when she eats paani puri, the bells on her anklets make a sound as she runs and most importantly, he loves her quirky nature. She loves the fact that he has a
