REVIEW: ‘Pyaar Dosti hai’ — Shah Rukh Khan may have said that way back in 1998 but Luv Ranjan proves it with a twist in 2018. Unpredictable throughout, the film’s real love story is the friendship (platonic) between its two male characters (Kartik Aaryan as Sonu and Sunny Singh as Titu), who are inseparable. Sweety’s (Nushrat Bharucha) arrival, messes their equation, leading Sonu to wonder if the girl is good enough for his brother from another mother. Who ends up as the third wheel in this unique and somewhat bizarre love triangle, forms the story.
If you are familiar with Luv Ranjan’s brand of youthful romcoms, you must know that they often represent young lovelorn men, who find themselves dancing to the tunes of manipulative girlfriends. Sonu Ke Titu ki Sweety (SKTKS) too revolves around a hapless victim of calculative ‘affairs’ and if you liked the Pyaar Ka Punchnama movies, you are bound to enjoy this one.
Despite its misogynistic nature, Ranjan’s lighthearted approach to counter gender stereotypes in modern relationships makes his take fascinating. A girl can be a villain too! We wonder why Sweety must announce ‘Main chaalu hoon,’ to Sonu though? Nonetheless, various other situations seem relatable, which helps.
The casting works well as all performances are in sync with the film’s cheeky demeanour. ‘Monologue man’ Kartik makes the most of his meatier part and steals the show. Alok Nath in a not so sanskari role is delightful. Sunny, Nushrat and Ishita Raj add to the entertainment quotient. However, what doesn’t work for the movie is its duration. Stretched for almost 2 hours, 20 minutes, the Sonu vs Sweety battle, several songs and dialogues (tu shaadi sirf sex ke liye kar raha hai kya) keep going in circles to the point of being uninteresting. Also, Sonu’s outright hatred for Sweety lacks a valid reason, which makes his motive to break Titu’s marriage seem more like a romantic obsession than possessiveness or protective behaviour as intended.
Despite the odds, this bromance vs romance comedy works as an exciting guessing game to predict who’ll end up as the third wheel — best friend or girlfriend? This means war.
ब्रोमांस Vs रोमां एक ऐसी स्थिति होती है जिससे हम सब कभी ना खभी गुजरते हैं, ये बात तो आप भी मानेंगे। आपकी दोस्त किसी और से प्यार करने लगती है और आप उसके लिए हां बोलते हैं लेकिन नहीं बोलना चाहते हैं। लव रंजन की यह लेटेस्ट फिल्म सोनू के टीटू की स्वीटी इस लड़ाई की कहानी है। प्यार का पंचनामा और प्यार का पंचनामा 2 के डायरेक्टर यहां भी जेंडर बैलेंस को अलग तरीके से पेश किया है लेकिन जिस तरह से उन्होंने फिल्म में सबकुछ दिखाया है वो उनके पक्ष में काम करती है।विद्या बालन की फिल्म डर्टी पिक्चर का वो डायलोग तो आपको याद होगा कि फिल्में सिर्फ 3 चीजों की वजह से चलती है इंटरटेनमेंट, इंटरटेनमेंट, इंटरटेमेंट। सोनू के टीटू की स्वीटी भी पूरे 140 मिनट तक आपको इंटरटेनमेंट देती है। लंगोटिया यार सोनू (कार्तिक आर्यन) और टीटू (सनी सिंह) हमेशा हर अच्छे बुरे दौर में एक दूसरे के साथ रहते हैं लेकिन इस दोस्ती में सोनू की अधिक चलती है। फिर चाहे बात दिल की या किसी और चीज की हो सोनू हमेशा टीटू को बचाने के लिए आता है। इसके बाद एंट्री होती है परफेक्ट बहू मेटेरियल स्वीटी शर्मा (नुसरत भरुचा) की। टीटू को इससे प्यार हो जाता है और वो शादी करना चाहता है लेकिन सोनू समझता है कि ऐसा कुछ होने वाला नहीं है। कुछ मुलाकातों के बाद उसे समझ आता है कि स्वीटी के साथ मुलाकातों में सबकुछ नॉर्मल नहीं है। उसे कुछ एहसास होता है। लेकिन क्या सोनू टीटू की भावनाओं को समझ पाएगा जो पहले ही बहुत अधिक प्यार में है। प्यार का पंचनामा में गर्लफ्रेंड्स पर गुस्से और कॉमेडी अंदाज में जिस तरह से उन्होंने डायलॉग बोला था वो इंटरनेट पर छा गया था।कई भारतीय लड़कों ने कार्तिक आर्यन में खुद को देखा था। सोनू के टीटू की स्वीटी में भी कार्तिक आर्यन का किरदार ऐसा है जिससे कई लोग कनेक्ट करेंगे और कार्तिक ने अपने किरदार को बखूबी निभाया है।कार्तिक इमोशनल मोमेंट्स में भी बहुत अच्छे लगे हैं।फिल्म में नुसरत भरुचा भी किसी सरप्राइज से कम नहीं हैं। उनकी और कार्तिक की बातों की लड़ाई काफी मजेदार है। सनी सिंह भी टीटू के किरदार में काफी अच्छे लगे हैं और उनके भी अपने कई शाइनिंग मोमेंट्स हैं।लेकिन उनकी और नुसरत की केमेस्ट्री में वो स्पार्क नहीं है। जो लोग सूरज बड़जात्या की फिल्मों के बाबूजी यानि आलोकनाथ के आदि हैं उन्हें आलोकनाथ इस फिल्म कल्चरल शॉक देने वाले हैं। वो इस फिल्म में संस्कारी छोड़ कर सबकुछ लगे हैं और इस बार उनकी कन्यादान करने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं है। इसके अलावा भी बाकी एक्टर्स ने अपना काम बखूबी किया है और कई जगहों पर आप जमकर ठहाके लगाएंगे। फिल्म में हालांकि कुछ कमजोर कड़ियां भी हैं। जैसे डायरेक्टर स्वीटी के छिछोरेपन के कारण को समझाने की कोशिश नहीं की। पि्लम कहीं कहीं खिंची हुई लगती है। सुधीर के चौधरी की सिनेमेटोग्राफी भी कमाल की है। अगर फिल्म के म्यूजिक की बात करें तो जैक नाइक और जैसमिन वालिया का पॉपुलर गाना बॉम डिगी डिगी अच्छी पार्टी सॉन्ग है।दिल चोरी पर भी आप जमकर थिरकेंगे। लेकिन असल सरप्राइज फिल्म में तेरा यार हूं मैं है जो बड़े ही खूबसूरती के साथ फिल्माया गया है और ये गाना भी काफी अच्छा है। कम शब्दों में कहें तो सोनू के टीटू की स्वीटी उच्चवर्गीय सिनेमा से अलग है। ये एक मजेदार फिल्म है जो आपको खुद को बहुत अधिक गंभीरता के साथ लेने के लिए नहीं कहती है।पॉपकॉर्न लें और अपने दोस्तों के साथ इस फिल्म देखने जाएं। कास्ट - कार्तिक आर्यन, नुसरत भरुचा, सनी सिंह डायरेक्टर - लव रंजन
