VEEREY KI WEDDING

STORY: Veer Arora is a 'dilli ka launda' who is in love with a 'dilli ki kudi' Geet and wants to marry her. Things go awry when during the meet-the-parents session, Veer locks horns with some scoundrels who misbehave with a girl in a hotel. Geet's father is a peace loving man and refuses give his daughter permission to marry a boy who indulges in 'maar-dhaad' even though he otherwise has a heart of gold.

REVIEW: Set in Delhi, the film revolves around lovers who take the whole duration of the film to get married with the blessings of their parents. The technique used to introduce the hero, Veer (Pulkit Samrat) and heroine, Geet (Kriti Kharbanda) harks back to the 1990s. While the camera concentrates on Veer's swagger and 'chaudi chathi', in case of Geet, it pans from her backside to her bosom and predictably, the girl and the boy (donning a dungree) break into a song with Hinglish lyrics, "Ignore kar na, banda bada mind blowing."

Moving on, there isn't any semblance of a screenplay in the film's first half which also introduces the audience to Balli (Jimmy Shergill), a 35-year-old man and Veer's cousin. Balli has been unlucky in love and is searching eternally for a bride. He adds fuel to fire by threatening Geet's father (Satish Kaushik) with dire consequences, if he causes trouble in the union of Veer and Geet. Coming to the film's dialogues, they seem to have been penned on the go, to put it mildly. Sample this --- Veer's father describing his son's accomplishments while comparing him with another boy says, "Woh gul khilata hai lekin Veer to bagicha khilata hai' or this --- Geet's father trying to tickle the funny bone says, "Na dahi na bhalle, balle balle'. If that elicits laughter, a chuckle or even a smirk then yes, 'Veerey Ki Wedding' is a comedy.

During the film's making, the writers must have realised that parental opposition alone as a conflict is not enough to give their story heft. So, they introduce yet another point of contention with a new suitor for Geet. A film that's been derailed right from the first frame doesn't even have a glimmer of hope to be able salvage the plot at any point, especially in it's second half. Pulkit Samrat who has been trying to make a mark for a while in films, suffers from a huge Salman Khan hangover and that is his biggest shortcoming as an actor. While one has lost count of the number of times Kriti Kharbanda has played a bride, her role in this film requires her to just look pretty and act stupid. As for the film's rest of the cast including Jimmy Shergill, Satish Kaushik and Yuvika Chaudhary, they seem to be sleep walking through it. The set design is straight out of a daily soap. On second thoughts, they do a much better job. Meanwhile, the music and songs are pedestrian and forgettable.

'Veerey Ki Wedding' is a loud and hackneyed film. Skip this comedy of errors as the makers have erred every step of the way in this film. Or, watch it at your own risk. ആഘോà´·à´µേളയിൽ à´•ുംà´Ÿുà´¬ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´™്ങൾക്à´•ും, à´¹ാà´¸്à´¯ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´™്ങൾക്à´•ും à´ª്à´°േà´•്ഷകർ à´•ൂà´Ÿുതൽ à´ª്à´°ാà´§ാà´¨്à´¯ം à´•ൊà´Ÿുà´•്à´•ാà´±ുà´®ുà´£്à´Ÿ്. ഇത്തവണത്à´¤െ à´¹ോà´³ിà´•്à´•് à´°à´£്à´Ÿ് à´¹ിà´¨്à´¦ി à´šിà´¤്à´°à´™്ങളാà´£് à´¤ീയറ്ററിൽ à´Žà´¤്à´¤ിയത്. à´Ž - സർട്à´Ÿിà´«ിà´•്à´•േà´±്à´±് à´•ിà´Ÿ്à´Ÿിà´¯ പരി à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´¹ൊറർ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ോà´Ÿൊà´ª്പമാà´£് à´µീà´°െ à´•ി à´µെà´¡ിംà´—് à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´•ോമഡി, à´±ൊà´®ാൻസ്, ആക്ഷൻ à´šേà´°ുവകൾ à´¨ിറഞ്à´ž à´šിà´¤്à´°ം à´Žà´¤്à´¤ിയത്.à´¸്à´µാà´ാà´µിà´•à´®ാà´¯ി à´šിà´¨്à´¤ിà´š്à´šാൽ à´µീà´°െ à´•ി à´µെà´¡ിംà´—് à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨് à´®ുൻതൂà´•്à´•ം ലഭിà´•്à´•േà´£്à´Ÿà´¤ാà´¯ിà´°ുà´¨്à´¨ു, à´Žà´¨്à´¨ാൽപരി à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨ു ലഭിà´š്à´š à´¤ുà´Ÿà´•്à´•ം à´ªോà´²ും à´…à´·ു à´¤്à´°ിà´– à´¸ംà´µിà´§ാà´¨ം à´šെà´¯്à´¤ à´ˆ à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨് ലഭിà´š്à´šിà´²്à´². à´±േà´±്à´±ിംà´—് - 4/10 à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´²െ à´¤ാà´°à´™്ങൾ à´ªുൽകിà´¤് സമ്à´°ാà´Ÿ്à´Ÿ്, à´•ൃà´¤ി ഖർബന്à´§, à´œിà´®്à´®ി à´·െർഗിൽ, സതീà´·് à´•ൗà´¶ിà´•് à´¤ുà´Ÿà´™്à´™ിയവരാà´£് à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിലഭിനയിà´š്à´šിà´°ിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നത്. à´µീർ à´Žà´¨്à´¨ പയ്യന്à´±െ à´•à´²്à´²്à´¯ാà´£ം അഥവാ à´•à´²്à´²്à´¯ാണക്à´•à´¥: à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨്à´±െ à´ªേà´°് à´¸ൂà´šിà´ª്à´ªിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നതു à´ªോà´²െ തന്à´¨െ à´µീർ à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´¨ായക à´•à´¥ാà´ªാà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨്à´±െ à´•à´²്à´²്à´¯ാണമാà´£് à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨്à´±െ à´µിà´·à´¯ം. ഡൽഹിà´¯ിà´²ാà´£് à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിà´¨്à´±െ à´•à´¥ നടക്à´•ുà´¨്നത്. ഉദാഹരണത്à´¤ിà´¨് à´—ുà´£്à´Ÿാ à´ªിà´°ിà´µ് തടയുà´•, à´¬ാà´™്à´•് à´•ൊà´³്ളയടിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നവരെ à´ªിà´Ÿി à´•ൂà´Ÿുà´•, à´¸്à´¤്à´°ീà´•à´³െ ശല്à´²്à´¯ം à´šെà´¯്à´¯ുà´¨്നവരെ à´•ൈà´•ാà´°്à´¯ം à´šെà´¯്à´¯ുà´•, à´ªാവപ്à´ªെà´Ÿ്ടവരെ സഹാà´¯ിà´•്à´•ുà´• à´¤ുà´Ÿà´™്à´™ിà´¯ à´•ാà´°്യങ്ങൾ. à´…à´¤ു à´•ൊà´£്à´Ÿ് തന്à´¨െ à´ªോà´²ീà´¸ുà´•ാർ à´ªോà´²ും ഇയാà´³െ ബഹുà´®ാà´¨ിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്à´¨ു. à´•à´¸ിà´¨ാà´¯ ബല്à´²ിà´¯ും (à´œിà´®്à´®ി à´·െà´±ിൽ) à´µീà´±ിà´¨ൊà´ª്à´ªം ഉണ്à´Ÿ്. à´—ീà´¤് (à´•ൃà´¤ി) à´Žà´¨്à´¨ à´ªെൺകുà´Ÿ്à´Ÿിà´¯ും à´µീà´±ും തമ്à´®ിൽ à´ª്രണയത്à´¤ിà´²ാà´•ുà´¨്à´¨ു à´Žà´¨്à´¨ാൽ à´µീà´±ിà´¨്à´±െ à´ª്രവർത്à´¤ികൾ ഇഷ്à´Ÿà´ª്à´ªെà´Ÿാà´¤്à´¤ à´—ീà´¤ിà´¨്à´±െ à´µീà´Ÿ്à´Ÿുà´•ാർ ഇവരുà´Ÿെ à´µിà´µാഹത്à´¤ിà´¨് സമ്മതിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്à´¨ിà´²്à´², അവർക്à´•് à´—ുà´£്à´Ÿà´¯െ à´ªോà´²െ à´ªെà´°ുà´®ാà´±ുà´¨്à´¨ പയ്യനെ à´µേà´£്à´Ÿെà´¨്à´¨ു പറയുà´¨്à´¨ു. à´…à´¤ിà´¨ു à´¶േà´·à´µും à´µീà´Ÿ്à´Ÿുà´•ാà´°ുà´Ÿെ സമ്മതത്à´¤ോà´Ÿെ തന്à´¨െ à´µിà´µാà´¹ം à´•à´´ിà´•്à´•ാൻ à´µേà´£്à´Ÿി ഇവർ à´•ാà´¤്à´¤ിà´°ിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്à´¨ു. à´µീà´±ിà´¨്à´±െ à´œീà´µിതത്à´¤ിൽ à´¸ംà´à´µിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്à´¨ ഇത്തരം à´•ാà´°്യങ്ങൾ à´¹ാà´¸്à´¯ം കലർത്à´¤ി à´ª്à´°േà´•്ഷകർക്à´•് à´®ുà´¨്à´¨ിà´²െà´¤്à´¤ിà´•്à´•ുà´•à´¯ാà´¯ിà´°ുà´¨്à´¨ു à´…à´£ിയറക്à´•ാà´°ുà´Ÿെ ലക്à´·്à´¯ം. ലക്à´·്യത്à´¤ിൽ à´•ൊà´³്à´³ാà´¤്à´¤ à´¹ാà´¸്യവും à´¤ൊà´£്à´£ൂà´±ുà´•à´³ിà´²െ കഥയും: à´’à´°ുà´ªാà´Ÿ് à´•à´£്à´Ÿു പഴകിà´¯ കഥയാà´£് à´µീà´£്à´Ÿും à´ª്à´°േà´•്ഷകർക്à´•ാà´¯ി à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിൽ à´’à´°ുà´•്à´•ിà´¯ിà´°ിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നത്.ആവർത്à´¤ിà´•്à´•à´ª്à´ªെà´Ÿുà´¨്à´¨ കഥയാà´¯ാà´²ും അവതരണം à´•ൊà´£്à´Ÿും à´¤ാà´°à´™്ങളുà´Ÿെ à´…à´ിനയം à´•ൊà´£്à´Ÿും à´ªോà´°ാà´¯്à´® à´¨ിà´•à´¤്à´¤ാൻ à´¸ാà´§ിà´•്à´•ുà´®ാà´¯ിà´°ുà´¨്à´¨ു à´Žà´¨്à´¨ാൽ ഇവിà´Ÿെ à´…à´™്ങനെà´¯ുà´³്à´³ à´¶്രമങ്ങളും à´•ാà´£ാൻ à´•à´´ിà´¯ുà´¨്à´¨ിà´²്à´². à´•ാà´®്à´ªിà´²്à´²ാà´¤്à´¤ കഥയും ശരാശരിà´•്à´•് à´¤ാà´´െ à´®ാà´¤്à´°à´®െà´¨്à´¨് കണക്à´•ാà´•്à´•ാà´µുà´¨്à´¨ à´¹ാà´¸്യരംà´—à´™്ങളുà´®ാà´£് à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤ിൽ.à´¨ായകനാà´¯ à´ªുൽകിà´¤് à´¨്à´±െ à´…à´ിനയം വളരെ à´®ോശമാà´¯ിà´°ുà´¨്à´¨ു, ആക്à´·à´¨ോ, à´¹ാà´¸്യമോ, à´ª്രണയമോ à´’à´¨്à´¨ും à´ª്à´°à´¤ിà´«à´²ിà´ª്à´ªിà´•്à´•ാà´¨ാà´µാà´¤െ à´¤ാà´°ം പലയിà´Ÿà´¤്à´¤ും നടൻ സൽമാൻ à´–ാà´¨്à´±െ à´®ിà´®ിà´•്à´°ി അവതരിà´ª്à´ªിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നതു à´ªോà´²െ à´¤ോà´¨്à´¨ുà´¨്à´¨ു. പശ്à´šാà´¤്തല à´¸ംà´—ീതവും à´¶ോà´à´¯േà´•ുà´¨്à´¨ിà´²്à´².à´šിà´¤്à´°à´¤്à´¤െ à´’à´°ു à´µിà´§ം à´ªിà´Ÿിà´š്à´šു à´¨ിർത്à´¤ുà´¨്നത് à´œിà´®്à´®ി à´·െà´±ിà´²ിà´¨്à´±െ à´•à´¥ാà´ªാà´¤്à´°à´®ാà´£്. തരക്à´•േà´Ÿിà´²്à´²ാà´¤്à´¤ à´ª്à´°à´•à´Ÿà´¨ം à´•ാà´´്ചവച്à´š à´œിà´®്à´®ിà´•്à´•ും ഇടവേളയ്à´•്à´•് à´¶േà´·ം à´•ൂà´Ÿുതലൊà´¨്à´¨ും à´šെà´¯്à´¯ാൻ à´•à´´ിà´ž്à´žിà´²്à´². തന്à´±െ à´—്à´²ാമർ à´•ൊà´£്à´Ÿ് à´¨ാà´¯ിà´• à´•ൃà´¤ിà´¯്à´•്à´•് à´•ുറച്à´šൊà´•്à´•െ തന്à´±െ ആരാധകരെ à´¤ൃà´ª്à´¤ിà´ª്à´ªെà´Ÿുà´¤്à´¤ാൻ à´•à´´ിà´¯ും.à´Žà´¨്à´¨ിà´°ുà´¨്à´¨ാà´²ും ആകെ à´®ൊà´¤്à´¤ം à´µിലയിà´°ുà´¤്à´¤ുà´®്à´ªോൾ à´šിà´¤്à´°ം ശരാശരിà´•്à´•ും à´¤ാà´´െ à´®ാà´¤്à´°à´®ാà´£്. à´®േà´•്à´•് à´®ൈ à´¡െ à´Žà´¨്റർടെà´¯്ൻമെൻസിà´¨്à´±െ à´¬ാനറിൽ à´¨ിർമ്à´®ിà´š്à´š à´šിà´¤്à´°ം പനോà´°à´® à´¸്à´±്à´±ുà´¡ിà´¯ോà´¸ാà´£് à´ª്രദർശനത്à´¤ിà´¨െà´¤്à´¤ിà´š്à´šിà´°ിà´•്à´•ുà´¨്നത്.

Kuthiraivaal

Kuthiraivaal Movie Review:  Manoj Leonel Jahson and Shyam Sunder’s directorial debut Kuthiraivaal brims with colours and striking imagery. This is apparent as early as its first scene, where its protagonist Saravanan alias Freud squirms in his bed, suspecting a bad omen. As some light fills his aesthetic apartment wrapped with vintage wall colours, his discomfort finally makes sense—for he has woken up with a horse’s tail! The scene is set up incredibly, leaving us excited for what is to come. But is the film as magical as the spectacle it presents on screen? Kuthiraivaal revolves around Saravanan (played by a brilliant Kalaiyarasan) and his quest to find out why he suddenly wakes up with a horse’s tail, and on the way, his existence in life. Saravanan’s universe is filled with colourful characters, almost magical yet just real enough—be it his whimsical neighbour Babu (Chetan), who speaks about his love for his dog and loneliness in the same breath, or the corner-side cigar...

Maaran

Even as early as about five minutes into Maaran, it’s hard to care. The craft seems to belong in a bad TV serial, and the dialogues and performances don't help either. During these opening minutes, you get journalist Sathyamoorthy (Ramki) rambling on about publishing the ‘truth’, while it gets established that his wife is pregnant and ready to deliver ANY SECOND. A pregnant wife on the cusp of delivery in our 'commercial' cinema means that the bad men with sickles are in the vicinity and ready to pounce. Sometimes, it almost feels like they wait around for women to get pregnant, so they can strike. When the expected happens—as it does throughout this cliché-ridden film—you feel no shock. The real shock is when you realise that the director credits belong to the filmmaker who gave us Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, that the film stars Dhanush, from whom we have come to expect better, much better. Director: Karthick Naren Cast: Dhanush, Malavika Mohanan, Ameer, Samuthirakani Stre...

Mehandi Circus

In Mehandi Circus, romance is in the air. Somewhat literally. For, the hero and heroine fall in love to the sounds of Ilaiyaraaja songs and Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam from Dilli Ka Thug. The guy is Jeeva (debutant Madhampatti Rangaraj, not-so-expressive), who has a music cassette shop in Poompaarai, Kodaikanal. The girl, Mehandi (Shweta Tripathi, impressive in her Tamil debut) is a performer in a circus that has come to the place. Mehandi’s father (Sunny Charles), who also runs the circus, is wary of encouraging this relationship, for Jeeva’s father, Rajangam (Marimuthu) calls the shots in the village. Rajangam is also casteist, so much that he will not even let a worker enter his living room to talk over the phone to his mother, who is critical! While the framing device, involving Mehandi’s teenage daughter, Nisha (Pooja), who comes in search of Jeeva, of Mehandi Circus, is set in 2010, much of the film happens ...
