It is a common notion that a man’s life becomes miserable after marriage. So has Royichan’s, according to him. He is neck deep in debt and unemployed, and he believes that neither his mom nor his wife can understand him. As he struggles to find solutions for his financial crisis, we see many male characters empathising with him in Soumya Sadhanandan’s debut directorial. Are wives unbearable like how they think? Mangalyam Thanthunanena has the answer.
Mollywood has seen many films that narrate the side effects of marriage. Mangalyam Thanthunanena serves an old wine in a new bottle and reminds one of Mohanlal’s Midhunam and Jayaram’s Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal.
The film opens with the wedding of Roy (Kunchacko Boban) and Clara (Nimisha Sajayan) and quickly switches to their life after three months. There are fights between the husband and wife and between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Amidst all these, Roy is grappling to find monetary help to pay his debts. He finds his home a hell and many misogynistic remarks are being made by people around him on ‘post-marital trauma’. The remarks cannot be justified even if it is necessary for establishing the plot. It could have been easily avoided in the script. Being a female director, Soumya Sadhanandan could have taken a special interest in the same.
The effortless screen presence of the lead actors and Shanthi Krishna is quite endearing. It is a movie with a weak script but has turned out to be watchable as each character in it has done justice to their roles - be it Kunchacko Boban, Nimisha Sajayan, Shanthi Krishna or Hareesh Kanaran. Double thumbs up to Hareesh Kanaran, who essays his character with ease. The problems of the middle class in Kerala are very well portrayed by the makers.
Mangalyam Thanthunanena is a simple film without much to boast off.

'ഈട'യ്ക്ക് ശേഷം നിമിഷ സജയൻ. ഇവരെയൊരുമിപ്പിച്ച് സൗമ്യ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന
'ഒരു പഴയ ബോംബ് കഥ'യ്ക്ക് ശേഷം യുജിഎം എന്റര്ടെയ്ൻമെന്റിന്റെ ബാനറിൽ ഡോ. സക്കറിയ തോമസ്, ആൽവിൻ ആന്റണി, പ്രിൻസ് പോൾ, എയ്ഞ്ചലീന മേരി ആന്റണി എന്നിവരാണ് ചിത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നത്. സലിം കുമാർ, ഹരീഷ് കണാരൻ, ശാന്തികൃഷ്ണ, വിജയരാഘവൻ തുടങ്ങി ഒരു വലിയ താരനിരയും ചിത്രത്തിൽ അണിനിരക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അടുത്തിടെ വിവാഹിതരായ ദമ്പതികളുടെ കഥയാണ് ചിത്രം പറയുന്നത്.
സാമ്പത്തിക മാന്ദ്യത്തെതുടര്ന്ന് ജോലി നഷ്ടമായി റോയ് (കുഞ്ചാക്കോ ബോബന്) എന്ന ഗൾഫുകാരന് നാട്ടില് തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്നു. സമ്പന്നയായ ക്ലാരയെ (നിമിഷ സജയന്) വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്ന റോയിയുടെ ജീവിതം സന്തോഷപൂര്വ്വം മുന്നേറുന്നു. എന്നാല് തൊഴില്രഹിതനായ റോയിയുടെ ജീവിതം ദുരിതപൂര്ണ്ണമാകുന്നു .ഒരു ശരാശരി കേരളീയന്റെ ദാമ്പത്യ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന എല്ലാ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളും കൂട്ടിയിണക്കിയ ഒരു കഥയാണ് റോയിയുടേത് . രസകരമായുള്ള ആ അതിജീവനത്തിന്റെ ആവിഷ്ക്കാരമാണ് മംഗല്യം തന്തുനാനേന എന്ന ചെറുചിത്രം
റോയ് എന്ന കഥാപത്രമായി കുഞ്ചാക്കോ ബോബന് തിളങ്ങി. ഭാര്യയായി ക്ലാര എന്ന കഥാപാത്രം അവതരിപ്പിച്ച നായികാ നിമിഷയും ഒപ്പത്തിനൊപ്പം നില്ക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ചാക്കോച്ചൻ - ഹരീഷ് കോമ്പിനേഷൻ ആണ് ചിത്രത്തിൽ ഉടനീളം പ്രേക്ഷകരെ ചിരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിൽ പ്രധാന പങ്കു വഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് . ശാന്തി കൃഷ്ണയുടെ അമ്മ കഥാപാത്രവും മികച്ച നിലവാരം പുലർത്തി. ചെറിയ റോൾ ആണെങ്കിൽ കൂടി സൗബിൻ,, ലിയോണ എന്നിവർ തങ്ങളുടെ വേഷത്തോട് നീതിപുലർത്തിയിട്ടുമുണ്ട്.
തൊടുപുഴയുടെ വശ്യ മനോഹരമായ കാഴ്ചകള് അരവിന്ദ് കൃഷ്ണയുടെ ക്യാമറ നന്നായി ഒപ്പിയെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. സിനിമയുടെ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളോട് ചേരുന്ന രീതിയിൽ ഗാനങ്ങളും പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതവും ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത് സയനോരയും ബിജിബാലും ചേർന്നാണ്.
ഹൈ എനർജിയിൽ ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന സിനിമയിൽ ഇടവേളയോടടുത്തു കുറച്ചൊരു മങ്ങുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും തരക്കേടില്ലാത്ത രീതിയിൽ മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മുമ്പ് പല സിനിമകളിലും കണ്ട കഥാപരിസരം ആണെങ്കിലും വേറിട്ട ശൈലിയില് അവതരിപ്പിക്കാന് കഴിഞ്ഞു എന്നതാണ് സിനിമയുടെ പ്ലസ് പോയിന്റ്. കുടുംബത്തൊടൊത്തു പോയി കാണാവുന്ന ഒരു ഹാപ്പി എൻഡിങ് കോമഡി ഫാമിലി മൂവി ആണ് മംഗല്യം തന്തുനാനേന. മലയാള സിനിമയില് കാലെടുത്തു വെക്കുന്ന വനിതാ സംവിധായികയുടെ ആദ്യ ചിത്രം തീര്ച്ചയായും ഒരു പ്രതീക്ഷ തന്നെയാണ്.
