Aadai




            Female-centric movies with engaging and progressive content have been getting their due of late. Aadai manages to tick several boxes and joins the list, thanks to various factors which work in its favour. Its story revolves around how Kamini (Amala Paul), a bold and care-free girl, deals with the shock of finding herself in a naked state in an abandoned building, following a party, which turns everything topsy-turvy.

It is a delight to watch Amala Paul pull off the character of an unapologetically tomboyish and adventurous girl who works in a TV channel. Her mother (Sriranjini) is worried about her daring nature, but she’s confident of taking care of herself. A sudden birthday party, which her colleagues organise for her in their company’s old building, goes wild, after which a series of intriguing episodes take place.

The intense making of the movie coupled with the actress’ convincing performance provide ample edge-of-the-seat moments. Several contemporary issues have been touched upon without affecting the engaging screenplay, until a flashback is revealed. The backstory for the main conflict has an overdose of message and one wonders why films should often talk about social issues. It not only makes the premise preachy, but also puts off the core thrilling plot to an extent.
Nevertheless, Aadai is a compelling watch which breaks a few stereotypes and offers an engaging experience.






    అమలాపాల్.. సోషల్ మీడియాలో తరచూ ఈ పేరు ట్రెండ్ అవుతూనే ఉంటుంది. బోల్డ్ కామెంట్స్, హాటో ఫొటో షూట్, ఛాలెంజింగ్ రోల్స్‌ ఇలా సోషల్ మీడియాను హీటెక్కించే వార్తలతో నిరంతరం ‘హాట్’ టాపిక్‌గా నిలిచే అమలాపాల్.. మరోసారి సౌత్ ఇండియాలోనే ఏ హీరోయిన్ చేయని సాహసం చేసింది. ఒంటిపై నూలుపోగు లేకుండా నటించి సంచలన నటి అనిపించుకుంది. 

ఆమె లీడ్‌లో నటించిన తమిళ చిత్రం ‘ఆడై’ను తెలుగులో ‘ఆమె’ పేరుతో నేడు విడుదల చేస్తున్నారు. ఎమ్.ఆర్ రత్న ఈ చిత్రానికి దర్శకత్వం వహించగా.. తెలుగులో తమ్మారెడ్డి భరద్వాజ విడుదల చేస్తున్నారు. తమిళ్‌లో ఆడై అంటే ‘డ్రస్’ అని అర్ధం. ఈ టైటిల్‌కి తగ్గట్టుగానే ఈ సినిమా టీజర్‌లో అమలాపాల్ డ్రెస్ లేకుండా పూర్తి నగ్నంగా నటించింది. 

ఈ చిత్రంలో అమలాపాల్.. రెండు వైవిధ్యభరిత పాత్రల్లో నటిస్తోంది. డేరింగ్ అండ్ డాషింగ్ బిహేవియర్‌తో కనిపిస్తోంది అమలాపాల్. మగాళ్లతో కలిసి మందు, సిగరెట్‌లను ఊదేస్తూ.. ‘మనం పుట్టేటప్పుడు డ్రస్‌తోనా పుడుతున్నాం... మన డ్రెస్ మొత్తం విప్పేస్తే.. మన బాడీనే యాక్యువల్ బర్త్ డ్రెస్’ అంటూ పాశ్చాత్య పోకడలు ఉన్న మోడరన్‌ యువతిగా నటిస్తోంది. 

వెల్కమ్ టు ద వరల్డ్ కామినీ.. అంటూ అహంకారం పూరిత.. బిడియం లేని.. రసవంతమైన విభిన్నపాత్రలతో ‘ఆమె’లో ఏదో విషయం ఉంది అన్నట్టుగానే టీజర్, ట్రైలర్‌లతో ‘ఆమె’ సినిమాకు విపరీతమైన హైప్ తీసుకువచ్చింది అమలాపాల్. 

ఒంటిపై నూలు పోగులేకుండా.. శరీరం నిండా రక్తంతో.. రోదిస్తూ ఉన్న ‘ఆమె’కు ఏమైంది? కామినీపై అత్యాచారం జరిగిందా? అమలాపాల్ ఈ చిత్రంతో ఎలాంటి సందేశం ఇవ్వబోతుంది అనే క్యూరియాసిటీ పెంచేసింది అమలాపాల్. 

ఇక ఈ చిత్రానికి ట్విట్టర్‌లో పాజిటివ్ రెస్పాన్స్ వస్తోంది. ఇటీవల సినిమా చూసిన సీనియర్ దర్శక నిర్మాత తమ్మారెడ్డి భరద్వాజ.. అమలాపాల్ నటనకు ముగ్ధుడయ్యారు. ‘నా 40 సంవత్సరాల అనుభవంలో ఇలా పెర్ఫామ్ చేసే నటిని ఇంతవరకూ చూడలేదు. మంచి సినిమాలు తీసే దర్శకులు.. అద్భుతంగా పెర్ఫామ్ చేసే నటులు ఉన్నంతకాలం ఇలాంటి మంచి సినిమాలు వస్తూనే ఉంటాయి. ఇలాంటి కథ చేయాలంటే గట్స్ కావాలి. బట్టల్లేకుండా షూటింగ్ చేయడం అంటే చిన్న విషయం కాదు.. లొకేషన్‌లో వంద మంది ఉంటారు. దాన్ని పక్కన పెడితే ముందు బట్టల్లేకుండా నటించడానికి ధైర్యం కావాలి. ఓ దర్శకుడు పొరపాటున ఇలాంటి కథ చెబితే.. ఏంటండీ బట్టల్లేకుండా సినిమా చేయమంటారా? అని అడిగే రోజుల్లో.. కథను నమ్మి అమలాపాల్‌ నగ్నంగా నటించడం అంటే చిన్న విషయం కాదు. 

ఇలా చేయడానికి చేయడానికి సినిమా పట్ల ప్రేమ ఉండాలి. సినిమాని విపరీతంగా ప్రేమింగలగాలి. అప్పుడే ఇలాంటి మంచి కథలు వస్తుంటాయి. ఈ సినిమా తప్పకుండా పెద్ద హిట్ అవుతుందని చెప్పడానికి చాలా గర్వపడుతున్నాను అంటూ ఫస్ట్ రివ్యూ ఇచ్చారు తమ్మారెడ్డి. 

ఇక ట్విట్టర్‌లో సైతం.. అమలాపాల్ రోల్‌పై పాజిటివ్ స్పందనలు వస్తున్నాయి. కష్టపడి పనిచేస్తే అపజయం అనేదే ఉండదని ఈ చిత్రంతో నిరూపితం అవుతుందని.. అమలాపాల్ చేసిన ఛాలెంజింగ్ రోల్‌ని బట్టి చెప్పేయొచ్చని ట్వీట్లు చేస్తున్నారు. ఇక ఈ చిత్రంపై నెటిజన్ల స్పందన ఎలా ఉందో మరికొన్ని ట్వీట్ల ద్వారా చూద్దాం..

Maaran

Even as early as about five minutes into Maaran, it’s hard to care. The craft seems to belong in a bad TV serial, and the dialogues and performances don't help either. During these opening minutes, you get journalist Sathyamoorthy (Ramki) rambling on about publishing the ‘truth’, while it gets established that his wife is pregnant and ready to deliver ANY SECOND. A pregnant wife on the cusp of delivery in our 'commercial' cinema means that the bad men with sickles are in the vicinity and ready to pounce. Sometimes, it almost feels like they wait around for women to get pregnant, so they can strike. When the expected happens—as it does throughout this cliché-ridden film—you feel no shock. The real shock is when you realise that the director credits belong to the filmmaker who gave us Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, that the film stars Dhanush, from whom we have come to expect better, much better. Valimai

  H Vinoth's Valimai begins with a series of chain-snatching incidents and smuggling committed by masked men on bikes in Chennai. The public is up in arms against the police force, who are clueless. In an internal monologue, the police chief (Selva) wishes for a super cop to prevent such crimes. The action then cuts to Madurai, where a temple procession is underway.then we are introduced to ACP Arjun (Ajith Kumar), the film’s protagonist, whose introduction is intercut with scenes from the procession. Like a God who is held up high, we see this character rising up from the depths. In short, a whistle-worthy hero-introduction scene. We expect that Vinoth has done away with the mandatory fan service given his star's stature and will get around to making the film he wanted to make.
