Arjun Suravaram Story: Arjun Lenin Suravaram (Nikhil Siddarth) is an investigative journalist who finds himself becoming public enemy number one for no fault of his own. How he tracks down the person responsible for his downfall, forms the crux of the story.

Arjun Suravaram Review: For the uninitiated, Arjun Suravaram is the Telugu remake of the 2016 Tamil film Kanithan, also helmed by TN Santhosh, who happens to be AR Murugadoss’ prodigy. The plot, that of an investigative journalist who finds himself in midst of a massive scam is an interesting one befitting the mentor and has potential to be an engaging thriller. The issues crop up only as the stakes get higher and more plot lines are brought in, with everything seeming like a short story rather than adding up to something substantial. But not everything is lost, because Santhosh has definitely reigned it in for this remake.

Arjun Lenin Suravaram (Nikhil Siddarth) is an investigative journalist who works for a small television channel and has a heart of gold. His father (Nagireddy), also a journalist, believes in old-school methods and ethics of journalism and does not want his son to be a part of the dirty, corrupted, changing landscape. Kavya (Lavanya Tripathi) is his colleague and girlfriend, a pillar of support when he’s put through the wringer. Also thrown in the mix are his friends Rambabu and Balaji (Satya and Vennela Kishore), along with Balaji’s father - a constable (Posani Krishna Murali), who form the motley crew trying to bring down the person responsible for it all (Tarun Arora).

With so much going on, it’s no surprise that the film takes its own sweet time setting up the characters and ensuring you invest at least in some of them. The way the film begins is interesting, wasting no time in showing just how dire Arjun’s situation really is. But as the film progresses, it loses steam and the love track between Arjun and Kavya seems there just to take up time, especially when she turns into the perfect damsel-in-distress, recklessly walking into the villain’s lair with no second thought. Even worse is the ‘comedy’ involving Vidyut Raman that wastes even more time before getting into the thick of things.

What kind of works for the film are the portions that involve the conspiracy that Arjun is an unwilling part of. But even those work in bits and pieces, mostly due to Surya's cinematography, with the portions failing to seamlessly stitch together. It’s laudable the director tries to explain how more than Arjun’s reputation and life is at stake here.

Nikhil Siddharth, Vennela Kishore, Satya and Posani Krishna Murali steal the show with their performances, bringing gravitas even when Santhosh’s screenplay meanders. Tarun Arora and Lavanya Tripathi seem painfully stuck in roles that don’t offer them much to do than be the quintessential villain and heroine they are destined to be. Sam CS’ music doesn’t add or take away from anything even if the background score adds to certain scenes.

With a much tighter screenplay and a straightforward approach, this could’ve been gold and it is for the most part. The cinematic liberties taken to solve the mystery too are nagging, but nothing that can’t be ignored. Arjun Suravaram deserves to be watched, even if just for the fact that it offers to bring in a novel story to Tollywood, something beyond the usual love stories. And watch it especially for Nikhil, you won't regret it!

హ్యాపీ డేస్ చిత్రంతో అందరికీ దగ్గరైన హీరో నిఖిల్. స్వామిరారా, కార్తికేయ, ఎక్కడికి పోతావు చిన్నవాడా లాంటి వరుస విజయాలతో ఎంతో మంది అభిమానులను సంపాదించుకున్న నిఖిల్... ఓ సినిమా చేస్తున్నాడంటే.. ఏదైనా కొత్తగా ట్రై చేస్తున్నాడనే నమ్మకాన్ని కలిగించాడు. అయితే మధ్యలో కేశవ, కిరాక్ పార్టీ చిత్రాలతో నిరాశ పరిచాడు. తాజాగా ప్రేక్షకులను ఎలాగైనా సరే మెప్పించాలనే ప్రయత్నంతో అర్జున్ సురవరం అంటూ ప్రేక్షకులను పలకరించేందుకు సిద్దమయ్యాడు. మరి ఈ చిత్రం నిఖిల్‌కు ఆశించిన విజయాన్ని అందించిందా? లేదా? అన్నది ఓ సారి చూద్దాం.

కథ అర్జున్ లెనిన్ సురవరం (నిఖిల్) బీబీసీ చానెల్‌లో పని చేయాలనే ఆశయంతో ఉంటాడు. అప్పటి వరకు లోకల్ ఛానెల్‌లో పని చేస్తూ యువత పక్కదోవ పట్టడం, డ్రగ్స్ తీసుకోవడం లాంటి వాటిపై రిపోర్టింగ్ చేస్తూ ఉంటాడు. ఒకానొక సమయంలో బీబీసీ నుంచి అర్జున్‌కు ఫోన్ వస్తుంది. చివరకు తన జీవిత ఆశయం నెరవేరుతోందన్న సంతోషంలో ఉండగా.. ఫేక్ సర్టిఫికేట్స్‌తో బ్యాంకులను మోసం చేశాడన్న కారణంతో అర్జున్‌ను అరెస్ట్ చేస్తారు.

 

కథలో ట్విస్ట్‌లు.. నకిలీ సర్టిఫికేట్ల కుంభకోణంలో అర్జున్ ఎలా ఇరుక్కున్నాడు? అర్జున్ మెడకు ఈ కుంభకోణం చుట్టుకోవడానికి గల కారణాలేంటి? ఈ స్కామ్ వెనుక ఉన్న ముఠా ఎవరు? నకిలి సర్టిఫికెట్ల కుంభకోణానికి కారణమైన బయటకు ఎలా తీసుకొచ్చాడు? ఈ కుంభకోణంలో అర్జున్ నిర్దోషిగా తేలాడా? చివరకు ఈ కేసు నుంచి అర్జున్ ఎలా బయటపడ్డాడన్ననే ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానమే అర్జున్ సురవరం.

ఫస్టాఫ్ అనాలిసిస్.. తన తండ్రికి తెలియకుండా అర్జున్ రిపోర్టర్ జాబ్ చేస్తుండటం, బీబీసీలో వర్క్ చేస్తున్నానని కావ్య (లావణ్య త్రిపాఠి)కు చెప్పడం, వారిద్దరికి పరిచయం పెరగడం లాంటి సన్నివేశాలతో కొంత బోర్ కొట్టించినా.. వెన్నెల కిషోర్, సత్య పాత్రలతో కామెడీ ట్రాక్ నడిపించడంతో ఫర్వాలేదనిపిస్తుంది. బీబీసీ నుంచి ఫోన్ రావడం, అక్కడ ఇచ్చిన ఒక కేసును అర్జున్ పరిష్కరించే సీన్ అదిరిపోతుంది. అప్పటి వరకు అసలు కథలోని తీసుకెళ్లని దర్శకుడు.. ఒక్కసారి కథను మెయిన్ ట్రాక్ ఎక్కించడంతో ఆసక్తికరంగా మారుతుంది. నకిలి సర్టిఫికెట్లను సృష్టించి ఎడ్యుకేషన్‌లోన్ పేరిట బ్యాంకులను మోసం చేశాడని అరెస్ట్ చేయడం, అతనితో పాటు మరో నలుగురు కుర్రాళ్లను పోలీసులు లాక్కెడంతో కథ మలుపు తిరుగుతుంది. అందులో కార్తీక్ అనే యువకుడు ఆత్మహత్య చేసుకోవడంతో ఎమోషనల్‌గా కనెక్ట్ అవుతారు. ఈ స్కామ్‌కు సంబంధించిన డాట్ కన్సల్టెన్సీని పట్టుకోవడం, అక్కడి నుంచి అతని వేట కొనసాగించడం, దాని కోసం వెన్నెల కిషోర్‌ను ఎరగా వేయడం, భారీ యాక్షన్ సీన్‌తో సాగే ప్రథమార్థం అందర్నీ మెప్పించేలానే ఉంది.

సెకండాఫ్ అనాలిసిస్.. నకిలీ సర్టిఫికెట్ల స్కామ్‌ వెనకున్న దురా సర్కార్ (తరుణ్ అరోరా ) కొడుకును అర్జున్ చంపడంతో అతనితో కోసం వెతకడం మొదలుపెట్టడం, అదే సమయంలో ఈ స్కామ్ వెనకున్న వ్యక్తి కోసం అర్జున్ ప్రయత్నించే సన్నివేశాలతో ద్వితీయార్థం బాగానే అనిపిస్తాయి. అయితే హీరో వాటిని చేదించడం మరీ అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోవు. ఇంతకు ముందు చాలా సినిమాల్లో చూసేశామన్న ఫీలింగ్ కలగవచ్చు. ప్రథమార్థం సగభాగం తరువాత ఉండే ఆత్రుత.. ద్వితీయార్థంలోకి ఉండదు. తదుపరి సన్నివేశాలు ఏంటన్నది ప్రేక్షకుడు ఊహించడం, దానికి తగ్గట్టే కథనం ముందుకు సాగడంతో సెకండాఫ్ ఆసక్తిని రేకెత్తించదనిపిస్తుంది. చివరకు క్లైమాక్స్‌ కూడా ఏంటో ముందే అర్థమవ్వడం, ఏదో ఇక తప్పదు క్లైమాక్స్ ముగించేయాలన్నట్లు చకచకా చుట్టేసిన ఫీలింగ్ కలుగుతుంది.

నటీనటులు.. నిఖిల్ మంచి నటుడన్న విషయం అందరికీ తెలిసిందే. మరోసారి అర్జున్ లెనిన్ సురవరం పాత్రలో చక్కగా నటించాడు. ఈ చిత్రంలో యాక్షన్ మోతాదు పెంచేశాడు. ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్‌లోనూ నిఖిల్ ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. మొత్తానికి ఈ చిత్రాన్ని తన భుజాన మోసి.. ఒడ్డుకు తీసుకొచ్చాడు. కావ్యగా నటించిన లావణ్య త్రిపాఠి లుక్స్ పరంగానే కాకుండా ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్‌లోనూ బాగానే నటించింది. గ్యాప్ తరువాత వచ్చిన ఈ హీరో హీరోయిన్లకు ఈ చిత్రం కలిసి వచ్చేలానే ఉంది. ఈ సినిమాలో వెన్నెల కిషోర్ నవ్వించడమే కాదు.. ఎమోషనల్ సీన్‌లో ఏడ్పించేశాడు. కెమెరామెన్ రాంబాబు పాత్రలో సత్య ఎప్పటిలానే నవ్వించేశాడు. కానిస్టేబుల్ పాత్రలో సుబ్బారావ్‌గా పోసాని కూడా చక్కని నటన కనబర్చాడు. నిజాయితీ గత పోలీస్ పాత్రలో మరోసారి ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. నెగెటివ్ రోల్ చేసిన తరుణ్ అరోరా, రాజా రవీంద్ర ఆ పాత్రలకు సరిగ్గా సరిపోయారు. మిగతా పాత్రల్లో నాగినీడు, ప్రగతి, విద్యుల్లేఖ లాంటి వారు తమ పరిధి మేరకు నటించారు.

దర్శకుడి పనితీరు ఓ భాషలో హిట్ అయిన సినిమాను మరో భాషలో తెరకెక్కించడం అంటే కత్తి మీద సామే. ఉన్నది ఉన్నట్లు తెరక్కిస్తే నచ్చదనే అభిప్రాయం కొందరికి ఉండగా.. నేటివిటీ అంటూ కథలో ఇష్టమొచ్చినట్టు మార్పులు చేస్తే ఫీల్ దెబ్బతింటుందని మరికొంత మంది వాదన. ఇదే సూత్రం ఈ సినిమాకు కూడా వర్తిస్తుంది. ఒరిజినల్ మూవీ (కణిథన్) చూస్తే కలిగే ఆసక్తి, ఉత్కంఠగా అర్జున్ సురవరంను చూస్తూ కలగకపోవచ్చు. తెలుగు నేటివిటీకి తగ్గట్టు కథలో చాలానే మార్పులు చేశాడు దర్శకుడు టి సంతోష్. తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల అభిరుచికి తగ్గట్టు చేసిన మార్పులు కూడా ఫర్వాలేదనిపిస్తాయి. ద్వితీయార్థాన్ని మరింత ఆసక్తికరంగా మలిచితే బాగుండేదేమోనన్న ఫీలింగ్ ప్రేక్షకులకు కలగవచ్చు. క్లైమాక్స్‌ను కూడా కొంచెం ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్‌గా రాసుకుంటే ఫలితం ఇంకోలా ఉండేదేమో.

సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల పనితీరు అర్జున్ సురవరం చిత్రానికి సంగీతం, సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ ప్రధాన ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచాయి. శ్యామ్ సీ అందించిన సంగీతం, నేపథ్య సంగీతం బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. పాటలను అనవసరంగా ఇరికించే ప్రయత్నం చేయకపోవడం కలిసొచ్చే అంశం. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ కూడా సినిమా చక్కగా కుదిరింది. ద్వితీయార్థాన్ని ఇంకాస్త పదునుగా ఎడిట్ చేస్తే బాగుండేది. ఆర్ట్ విభాగం, నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్టున్నాయి.

ఫైనల్‌గా.. ఎన్నో వాయిదాల తరువాత వచ్చిన అర్జున్ సురవరం ప్రేక్షకులను బోర్ కొట్టించడు. అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రేక్షకులను ఏమేరకు ఆకట్టుకుంటాడన్న దాని మీదే.. అర్జున్ సురవరం విజయం ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. బీ, సీ సెంటర్ల ప్రేక్షకులకు, ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియెన్స్‌కు చేరువైతే అర్జున్ సురవరం చిత్రం కమర్షియల్‌గా మెరుగైన ఫలితాన్ని సాధించే అవకాశం ఉంది.
