Uriyadi

Story: During Onam celebrations, a theft occurs at the police quarters in Thiruvananthapuram. This puts the police and the ministry in a dilemma. In order to cover it up, they make a plan that reveals a secret.

Review: Police stories have always been part of Mollywood. Such movies have an audience as they mostly keep them on the edge their seats. AJ Varghese’s directorial Uriyadi starring an array of actors attempts to cash in on that. The story begins with a group of police chasing a thief and catching him tactfully. Soon, the plot shifts to police quarters in Thiruvananthapuram where everyone is getting ready for the Onam celebrations. As the celebrations go on, a thief breaks into a house and steals the gold. Rest of the movie discusses the tactics police employ to catch him.

The movie is told through multiple characters played by Siddique, Sreelakshmi, Sreenivasan, Manasa Radhakrishnan, Sudhi Koppa, Aju Varghese, Indrans, Baiju, Sreejith Ravi and Premkumar. Siddique appears as the police officer Ravi while Sreelekshmi plays the role of his wife Kavitha and Manasa Radhakrishnan is their daughter. Sudhi, a fire force officer, is the fiancée of Manasa’s character. Indrans, Baiju, Sreenivasan and Indrans are police officers while Premkumar is the minister of Home Affairs. All actors have tried to show justice to their characters. Ishaan has composed entertaining tracks while Jerin tries to capture the moments effectively.

Uriyadi has an interesting plot: a robbery happens in police quarters. For them, it is a shame and they would go to any extent to keep it under wraps. But news leaks and they are challenged. The writer of Uriyadi reflects on the other side of the life of policemen – the pressures they go through and its effects. His efforts to keep the script entertaining is admirable. However, unfortunately, the comedy turns out to be the villain in his script. Too much humour kills the narrative, and the dialogues mostly fail to tickle the funny bone. At many points, the characters look exaggerated, reminding the audience of a Tom and Jerry chase. As a thriller, the film moves in a highly predictable pace but sheds light on certain social issues.

Uriyadi could have been a better experience had they removed those silly humour and edited it neatly.

കാണാൻ കൊള്ളാവുന്ന ഒരു കോമഡിപ്പടമായിരുന്നു അടി കപ്യാരേ കൂട്ടമണി. ഒരു സീക്വലിനുള്ള സാധ്യതകൾ തുറന്നിട്ടുകൊണ്ടായിരുന്നു അടി കപ്യാരേ കൂട്ടമണി അവസാനിച്ചത്. അതിനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ചർച്ചകൾ പലപ്പോഴും സിനിമാഗ്രൂപ്പുകളിൽ ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു നടക്കാറുമുണ്ട്. അതിനിടയിലാണ് അടി കപ്യാരെയുടെ സംവിധായകൻ എ ജെ വർഗീസിന്റെ പുതിയ പടം എന്ന പരസ്യവാചകത്തോടെ ഉറിയടി തിയേറ്ററിൽ എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.

തമിഴിൽ ഹിറ്റ് എന്ന് പറയാവുന്ന ഒരു സീരീസ് ആണ് ഉറിയടി. പക്ഷെ ദിത് ദതല്ല. ഒരു പൊലീസ് ക്വാർട്ടേഴ്‌സും അവിടെ നടക്കുന്ന ഓണാഘോഷപരിപാടിയ്ക്കിടെ നടക്കുന്ന മോഷണവുമാണ് ഉറിയടിയുടെ ഉള്ളടക്കം. അടി കപ്യാരെയുടെ ഫ്ലേവറിൽത്തന്നെ പുതിയ സിനിമയും മുന്നോട്ട് കൊണ്ടുപോവാൻ വർഗീസ് ശ്രമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ദിനേഷ് ദാമോദർ തയാറാക്കിയ കഥയും തിരക്കഥയും അതീവദുർബലമാണ്. അതിൽത്തന്നെ ആദ്യപകുതിയുടെ കാര്യം കട്ടപ്പൊകയാണ്. മോഷണം നടന്നതിന് ശേഷമുള്ള സെക്കന്റ് ഹാഫാണ് തമ്മിൽ ഭേദം.

അധികം മുഷിപ്പിക്കാത്ത കോമഡി നമ്പറുകളാണ് സെക്കന്റ് ഹാഫിനെ നിലനിർത്തുന്നത്. ചാനലിൽ കോട്ടിട്ട് നിന്ന് മറ്റുള്ളവരെ കൊണ്ട് വാ തുറക്കാൻ സമ്മതിക്കാതെ ഏകപക്ഷീയമായി വിഡ്ഢിത്തം വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്ന പബ്ലിക് ടിവിയിലെ അർവിന്ദ് ആസാമിയും സെക്രട്ടറിയേറ്റിന് മുന്നിൽ നിന്ന് നോക്കുകൂലിക്ക് വേണ്ടി മൈക്കുകെട്ടി വായിട്ടലയ്ക്കുന്ന പ്ലാവിലക്കണ്ടി മണികണ്ഠനും 1010 ദിവസമായി ശവപ്പെട്ടിയിൽ നിരാഹാരം കിടക്കുന്ന താടിക്കാരനും ഒക്കെ ഉഗ്രൻ കാരിക്കേച്ചറുകളാണ്.

കോമഡിക്കായുള്ള കൊണ്ടുപിടിച്ച ശ്രമങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ പറയാൻ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച മുഖ്യ പ്രമേയവും അതിന്റെ ഗൗരവവും സംവിധായകൻ മറന്നുകളയുന്നു. അവസാനത്തെ പത്തു മിനിറ്റിലാണ് സ്ക്രിപ്റ്റ് തിരികെ കൂട്ടിൽ കയറുന്നത്. കുറച്ചുകൂടി സീരിയസായി സമീപിക്കേണ്ട ഒരു സിനിമയെ നശിപ്പിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞതായി ഇറങ്ങിപ്പോരുമ്പോൾ ആർക്കെങ്കിലും തോന്നിയാൽ സ്വാഭാവികം മാത്രം.

സിദ്ദിഖ്, ശ്രീലക്ഷ്മി, ബൈജു, അജു വർഗീസ്, സുധി കോപ്പ, ശ്രീജിത്ത് രവി, ശ്രീനിവാസൻ, ബാലാജി, നോബി, മാനസ, പ്രേംകുമാർ ഒക്കെയാണ് പടത്തിലെ പ്രധാന താരങ്ങൾ. ഇടിവെട്ട് ക്യാരക്റ്ററുകൾ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലാത്തതിനാൽ എല്ലാവരുടെയും പണി സുഗമമാണ്
