Velvet Nagaram Movie Synopsis: A journalist traces the mystery behind the murder of an actress, but she finds herself in a perilous situation after getting cornered by a bunch of goons

Velvet Nagaram Movie Review: Velvet Nagaram begins with the portrayal of struggles lead by a tribal community based out of a hill station. Politicians and the system have neglected them over the years. Actress Gauri (Kasturi), who works for their upliftment through several ways, is their only solace. One day, she gets mysteriously killed, and her friend Usha (Varalaxmi), a journalist, sets out to find her assassin. She seeks the help of her friend Priya (Malavika Sundar) and her husband Pradeep (Mugilan) to know more details about Gauri’s activities.

Meanwhile, Mugilan gets into a brawl with a small time gangster in a pub, after which a set of goons attack the former, his wife and Usha. As time passes by, Usha gets to know that this incident is connected with the actress’s murder. Who killer her and why she was murdered forms the rest of the story.

The major positive aspect of the film is the realistic performances of all the artistes. An action sequence which begins few minutes before the interval continues almost till the climax. Two action episodes which happen at different places offer tension-inducing moments and involve some gripping fist fights, which are neatly choreographed by Dinesh. But it becomes far-stretched after a point. A revelation of sorts happens in the climax portion which isn’t quite effective. A wannabe thriller flick, this deserved a more tight screenplay and making. Varalaxmi and Malavika stand out with their performances. Santhosh Krishna and Prakash Raghavan, too, were apt in their respective roles.

காட்டுக்குள் வாழும் பழங்குடியினரின் வீடுகள் தீக்கிரையாக, அதற்குப்  பின் இருக்கும் கார்ப்பரேட்டின் சூழ்ச்சியை வெளிக்கொண்டு வரும், வெல்வட் நகரம். காட்டுக்குள் இருக்கும் பழங்குடியினரை அங்கிருந்து காலி செய்ய நினைக்கிறது காப்பரேட் நிறுவனம் ஒன்று. மறுக்க, தீக்கிரையாகிறது அந்தப் பகுதி. அதுபற்றிய ரகசிய டாக்குமென்ட், நடிகையும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலருமான கஸ்தூரிக்கு கிடைக்கிறது.

கொல்லப்படுகிறார் அதை வெளிக்கொண்டு வர, மீடியாவை சேர்ந்த அவர் தோழி வரலட்சுமி முயற்சிக்கிறார். அவருக்குத் தகவல்கள் தருவதாகச் சொல்லும் கஸ்தூரி, திடீரென கொல்லப்பட, மதுரையில் இருந்து சென்னை வருகிறார் வரலட்சுமி. தோழியின் வில்லாவில் தங்கிக் கொண்டு கஸ்தூரி சொன்ன அந்த டாக்குமென்ட்டை தேடுகிறார். அது கிடைத்ததா? கார்பரேட்டின் சூழ்ச்சியை வெளிக்கொண்டு வந்தாரா? இவருக்கு என்ன நேர்ந்தது என்பதுதான் படம்.

பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தாமல் இதை நோக்கி மட்டுமே கதை சென்றிருந்தால் சிறப்பான ஒரு படத்தைப் பார்த்திருக்க முடியும். ஆனால், இங்கிருந்து தடாலென, திருட்டு மோசடி கும்பல் ஏரியாவுக்குள் நுழைய, எங்கோ செல்ல வேண்டிய விஷயங்கள் எங்கெங்கோ சென்று 'அப்புறம் அவங்கள்லாம் செத்துட்டாங்களா, ஓகே' என்று எந்த பாதிப்பையும் ஏற்படுத்தாமல், சப்பென்று முடிகிறது படம்!

மோசடிக் கும்பல் நாயகி வரலட்சுமி ஆவேசமாக என்ட்ரி ஆகிறார். அவ்வப்போது கோபப்படுகிறார். இரண்டாம் பாதியில் சிக்கலில் மாட்டிக்கொண்டு கண்ணீர் விடுகிறார். பிறகு ஏதோ செய்யப் போகிறார் என்று பார்த்தால், அவரை ஒன்றும் இல்லாமல் செய்து விடுகிறது திரைக்கதை. அவர் தோழியாக வரும் மாளவிகா, கணவர் பிரதீப்பை மோசடிக் கும்பல் தாக்கும் போதும், என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பது தெரியாமல் அங்கும் இங்கும் ஓடும்போதும் பிரதீப் கொல்லப்படும் போதும் தனது பயத்தை, தவிப்பை சிறப்பாக வெளிப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார்.

பலியாகி விடுகிறார் மோசடி கும்பல் லீடராக வரும் அர்ஜாய்க்கு அதிக வேலையில்லை. முறைப்பாக பார்க்கிறார், போன் பண்ணுகிறார். அதோடு அவர் வேலை முடிந்தது. சந்தோஷ் கிருஷ்ணா தன் பங்குக்கு துப்பாக்கியை வைத்துக்கொண்டு, 'என் மேலயே கை வைக்கியா?' என்று மிரட்டிவிட்டு பொட்டென்று பலியாகி விடுகிறார். சின்ன சின்ன திருட்டு செய்யும் ரமேஷ் திலக் இவர்களோடு மாட்டிக்கொண்டு மிரள்கிறார். 

அப்பா போனை எடுப்பா பகத் குமாரின் ஒளிப்பதிவில் ஓபனிங்கில் வரும் அந்த காடுகளின் காட்சி, குளிர்ச்சி. ஏகப்பட்ட ட்ரோன் ஷாட்களை பில்லர் மாதிரி பயன்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார்கள். பின்னணி இசை ரசிக்க வைக்கிறது. அந்த போலீஸ்காரர் போனில் இருந்து வரும், 'அப்பா போனை எடுப்பா' என்ற ரிங்டோனைக் கணித்து வரலட்சுமி உஷாராகும் காட்சி மட்டும், ரசனையான ட்விஸ்ட். மொத்தப் படத்துக்கும் அதுமட்டும் போதாதே!
