Cuban Colony

After the hit film Angamaly Diaries, Cuban Colony is yet another movie based on the rustic township. The movie revolves around the life of simpletons of the locality.

The film is about a handful of friends, who come together on the occasion of a wedding and how certain turn of events lead to gang wars. 

The film is directed and written by Manoj Varghese Parecattil and for a debutant, he shows promise as the captain of the project. Working with some known actors and newcomers, selected through rigorous auditions, Manoj makes them perform quite convincingly. Jino John, Sreekanth, Abel B Kunnel, Aishwarya Unni, Sreeraj, Gokul and Anagha Maria Ann, who lead the narrative, have all landed into their characters on two feet. Sinoj P Ayyappan cranks the camera for this Angamali story and his cinematic eye finds a good pairing with the director's vision. The 'maanga curry' song by Aristo Suresh was probably talked about much ahead of the release of the film for it's rustic, folk flavour. However, Cuban Colony has two more songs, both of which are reasonably well executed. Aloshya Kavumpurath does a good job with the music and background score of Cuban Colony blending it neatly into the narrative. 

Manoj is definitely a better director than a writer as the story is somewhat half baked. While the film has it's cinematic moments it also drags its feet along, quite a bit. With some more precision and deftness on the editing table, Cuban Colony would have won our rapt attention.

Albeit a few flaws, the team of Cuban Colony deserves a round of applause. For a team largely made of newbies they have made the story into a visual experience of fairly good cinematic quality. 




ക്യൂബൻ കോളനി ഹിറ്റായ അങ്കമാലി ഡയറിക്ക് ശേഷം ദുബായ് ടൗൺഷിപ്പിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് ചിത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നത്. ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ലളിതമായ ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള ചിത്രത്തെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയാണ് ചിത്രം.

സിനിമ ഒരു കല്യാണസമയത്ത് ഒരുമിച്ച് ഒരുമിച്ച് ഒരു കൂട്ടം സുഹൃത്തുക്കളാണ്. ചില സംഘട്ടനങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നത് സംഘട്ടനങ്ങളിലേക്കാണ്.

ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ സംവിധായകൻ മനോജ് വർഗീസ് പരകെറ്റിലായിരുന്നു. അരങ്ങേറ്റത്തിനൊപ്പം ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ നായകനായും അദ്ദേഹം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ചില പ്രശസ്തരായ അഭിനേതാക്കളും പുതുമുഖങ്ങളുമൊത്ത് ജോലി ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ, മനോജ് കരിയർ വഴി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത്, മനോജ് അവരെ ബോധപൂർവ്വം അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ജിനൻ ജോൺ, ശ്രീകാന്ത്, ആബേൽ ബി കുന്നൽ, ഐശ്വര്യ ഉണ്ണി, ശ്രീരാജ്, ഗോകുൽ, അനഘ മരിയ ആൻ എന്നിവരെല്ലാം രണ്ടു കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു. സിനോജ് പി അയ്യപ്പൻ ഈ അങ്കമാലി കഥയുടെ ക്യാമറ ചലിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. സംവിധായകന്റെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടോടെ നല്ലൊരു ജോഡിയാണ് സിന്ധു. അരിസ്റ്റോ സുരേഷിന്റെ 'മാംഗ കറി' എന്ന ഗാനം ഈ സിനിമയുടെ റിലീസിനു മുൻപാണ് ഏറെയും സംസാരിച്ചത്. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ക്യൂബൻ കോളണിക്ക് രണ്ടു കൂടി കൂടുതൽ ഗാനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്, അവ രണ്ടിരട്ടി നന്നായി നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്നു. ക്ലോബൻ കോളനിയിലെ സംഗീതവും പശ്ചാത്തല സ്കോറും ഉള്ള ഒരു ചിത്രമാണ് അലോഷ്യ കവുമ്പുറത്ത്.

ഒരു കഥ എഴുത്തുകാരനെക്കാളും മികച്ചൊരു സംവിധായകനെയാണ് മനോജ് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. സിനിമയ്ക്ക് സിനിമാറ്റിക് ക്വോൺസ് ഉണ്ട്. എഡിറ്റിങ് ടേബിളിൽ കുറച്ചുകൂടി കൃത്യതയോടെയും കൃത്യതയോടെയുമുള്ള ക്യൂബൻ കോളണിക്ക് ഞങ്ങളുടെ ധ്യാനശ്രദ്ധ ലഭിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.


കുറച്ചു കുറവുകൾ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ക്യൂബൻ കോളനി സംഘം ഒരു കൈയടി കരസ്ഥമാക്കും. നല്ലൊരു സിനിമാറ്റിക് ക്വാളിറ്റിയുടെ ഒരു ദൃശ്യാനുഭവമായി അവർ ഒരു പുതിയ ടീമിനെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു.
