Luca

           Luca (Tovino Thomas) is jovial, artistic and charismatic. While introducing his house to Niharika (Ahaana Krishna), when she complains about the mess, he replies, “Ee alongolathinum oru alankaramundu (this mess is decorative)”. The film is just like Luca’s response, a beautiful mess. An intense love story which will take you to a dreamland, leave you floundering and then wake you up with a jolt. 

Debutant Arun Bose’s movie Luca tells the tale of star-crossed lovers Luca and Niharika who meet accidentally during Biennale, become friends and quickly connects. Their magical love in a highly creative land which is filled with art and artistic elements leave you in awe. The chemistry and the interaction between Luca and Niharika are so intense and engaging that you tend to live along with them for a while. 

The film tells two stories, in parallel, life of Luca and Niharika and an investigation connected to them. While the love story is engaging, the investigation is too dramatic. When the two stories merge, the movie leaves you with many questions. 

Tovino gives an amazing performance and makes Luca, who has a fear of death, lovable. He effortlessly plays the romantic Superman like nobody else in Malayalam cinema. Ahaana just blends with his charm and gives her best so far. The duo makes you laugh and cry with their fabulous story. But then comes the investigation officer and the team who seems to be highly mechanical.

The colour tone and the art direction of the movie, by Anees Nadodi are commendable. Cinematography by Nimish Ravi that has used too many extreme close ups brought out the connect between Luca and Niharika well. However, that also revealed the flaws of other actors as they failed in showcasing minor expressions. Music director Sooraj S Kurup, who has also done an important role in the movie, presents an interesting array of music that adds flavour to the romantic saga. But Arun Bose in his interestingly-crafted venture succumbs to the weakly-knitted script.

While summing up, out of the many unanswered questions the movie raises, one of them has to be cracked. Will love give you hope or hopelessness in a crisis?





ഓരോ ഇറ്റും പ്രണയം നിറയുന്ന ഗാനങ്ങളും ട്രെയ്‌ലറും നൽകിയ വാഗ്‌ദാനമാണ് ലൂക്ക കാണാൻ പ്രേക്ഷകരെ തിയേറ്ററിലെത്തിക്കുന്നത് . യുവത്വത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയമിടിപ്പ് തന്നെയായിരുന്നു ടൊവിനോയും അഹാനയും ഈ പ്രണയവർണ്ണങ്ങളിൽ ചാലിച്ചതും. എന്നാൽ പൂവ് തേടി എത്തിയവർക്ക് പൂക്കാലം തന്നെ സമ്മാനിച്ച ചിത്രമായി ലൂക്ക. പ്രണയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കലയും മിസ്റ്ററിയും ഇത്രമേൽ ഭംഗിയായി നിറയ്ക്കാം എന്ന് സംവിധായകനായ അരുൺ ബോസ്, അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം കണ്ണിനിമ്പമുള്ള തിരക്കഥ രചിക്കാൻ ഒപ്പമുണ്ടായ മൃദുൽ ജോർജ് എന്ന തിരക്കഥാകൃത്തും ചേർന്ന് പരീക്ഷിച്ചു വിജയിച്ച കലാസൃഷ്ടി തന്നെയാണ് ലൂക്ക.

യുവത്വം തുളുമ്പുന്ന പ്രണയം പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച് സ്‌ക്രീനിൽ നോക്കി ഇരിക്കുന്ന പ്രേക്ഷകന് തീർത്തും ആകസ്മികമായ കാര്യങ്ങളാണ് ആദ്യം കാണേണ്ടി വരുന്നത്. കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തി സീറ്റിനെ മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചാണ് മുന്നോട്ടുള്ള പ്രയാണം നടത്താൻ സാധ്യത. അനാഥനായ കലാപ്രതിഭ ലൂക്കയുടെയും കൂട്ടുകാരിയായ നിഹാരികയുടെയും അഗാധ പ്രണയവും, വിങ്ങിപൊട്ടലുകളും, തണലും നിറഞ്ഞ വഴിയിലൂടെയുള്ള യാത്രയിവിടെ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. ഇവരുടെ അസ്വാഭാവിക മരണത്തിൽ പോലീസ് ഇടപെടുമ്പോൾ കുറ്റാന്വേഷകൻ എന്നതിലുപരി പോലീസ് ഇൻസ്‌പെക്ടറുടെ ആവശ്യം കാഥികന്റെ റോളിലാണ്. ഭൂതവും വർത്തമാനവും എത്രനേരം നോക്കി നിന്നാലും മടുക്കാത്ത തിരയടികൾ പോലെ ഒഴുക്കിലും മട്ടിലും ഇമ്പം ചോരാതെ വന്നു പോകുന്നു. കൊച്ചിയുടെയും ബിനാലെയുടെയും പശ്ചാത്തലം ഇതിന്റെ മാറ്റ് പതിന്മടങ്ങു വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

അൽപ്പം ഇടവേളയ്ക്കു ശേഷം മടങ്ങി വന്ന നായിക അഹാന കൃഷ്ണ യുവത്വത്തിന്റെ പ്രസരിപ്പും ഊർജവും നിറയുന്ന നിഹാരിക എന്ന നിഹയായി സ്‌ക്രീനിങ്ങിൽ കഥാവസാനം വരെയും നിറഞ്ഞു നിന്നു. ടൊവിനോ തോമസ്- അഹാന കെമിസ്ട്രി ചിത്രത്തിലുടനീളം ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. ടൊവിനോയുടെ നായികാ വേഷത്തിൽ ഒരുപക്ഷെ അടുത്തെങ്ങും ഇത്രയും പെർഫെക്റ്റ് മാച്ച് ആയ ഒരാൾ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് വ്യക്തം. ലൂക്ക എന്ന നായകൻറെ പേരുള്ള ചിത്രത്തിൽ നായികയ്ക്കും തുല്യതാ പ്രാധാന്യം സ്ക്രിപ്റ്റ് നൽകിയെങ്കിൽ അതിന് നീതിയുക്തമായ പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വയ്ക്കാൻ കെൽപ്പുള്ള അഭിനേത്രിയായി അഹാന മാറി. മലയാളിയുടെ പകരക്കാരനില്ലാത്ത യൂത്ത് ഐക്കൺ ടൊവിനോയെ മായനദിക്കു ശേഷം തികഞ്ഞ യൂത്ത്‌ഫുൾ റോളിൽ ലൂക്കയിൽ കാണാം. ടൊവിനോയെ ലൂക്കയായല്ലാതെ ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൽ കാണാൻ ആവില്ല. ടൊവിനോയുടെ സിഗ്നേച്ചർ ആയ ചുടുചുംബനം പ്രണയത്തിന്റെ തീവ്ര മുഹൂർത്തങ്ങളെ മനോഹരമാക്കുന്നു.

ലൂക്ക മലയാള സിനിമയ്ക്കു നൽകുന്ന വാഗ്ദാനം ആണ് പോലീസ് ഇൻസ്‌പെക്ടർ അക്ബർ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച നിതിൻ ജോർജ്. മുൻ ചിത്രവും കഥാപാത്രവും അധികം ആരും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ പോയെങ്കിലും, ലൂക്കയുടെ ആദ്യ പകുതിയിൽ ഉദ്വേഗം നിറയ്ക്കാൻ നിതിന്റെ പ്രകടനം ആവശ്യമായിരുന്നു. തന്മയത്വവും, ഗാംഭീര്യവും, കയ്യടക്കവും അക്ബറിനു മുതൽക്കൂട്ടായി.

എല്ലാവരെയും പ്രശംസിക്കുമ്പോൾ ലൂക്കയുടെ കലാസംവിധായകനെ മറന്നു പോകുന്നത് അനീതിയാവും. കണ്ണിനു കുളിരേകുന്ന ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ ഒരുക്കിയ ആ കലാ സംവിധായകൻ അനീസ് നാടോടിയാണ്. അത് പോലെ തന്നെ യുവത്വത്തിന്റെയും പ്രണയത്തിന്റെയും നിഗൂഢതയുടെയും സംഗീതം ഒരുക്കിയ സൂരജ് എസ്. കുറുപ്പ്, ജീവൻ തുടിക്കുന്ന ഫ്രയിമുകളെ ഒപ്പിയെടുത്ത ക്യാമറാമാൻ നിമിഷ് രവി എന്നിവർ ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ നട്ടെല്ലാണ്. യൂത്ത് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന രുചിക്കൂട്ടുകൾ പാകത്തിനും അളവിനും തുലോം കൂടുതലോ കുറവോ ഇല്ലാതെ തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ഈ വിഭവം ആസ്വദിച്ചു തന്നെ അറിയുക.
