Guna 369

While RX 100 was a sure-fire hit and Hippi a disaster, one can still make out why Karthikeya chose these scripts. With every story of his different from his last, Guna 369 is one such attempt where he tries to pick a script and character that he hasn’t done before. But unfortunately for him, these films also depend on the director’s narrative, which is where his latest offering falters.

Guna (Karthikeya) is a pampered man who works at a granite factory with his best friend Battu (Mahesh). Everyone in his colony seems to have a soft spot for him, including the neighbourhood goonda Radha (Adithya Menon) whom he knows since childhood. Also in the tale is the love of his life Geeta (Anagha) who initially seems to exist in this tale just to sing duets with him, but soon shows her claws when the time comes. Guna 369 also has a group of criminals who look and live like your average everyday man but shoot videos of themselves raping unsuspecting women in their downtime. A series of events bring all these storylines together thanks to one character (no it’s refreshingly not the lead pair). But the journey to there is tedious, long-drawn and filled with unnecessary duets.

There’s a scene in the film where Guna picks up a Bhagavata Gita and one would imagine he would maybe read it to help him navigate out of the situation he’s in. But instead, he imagines a duet with his girlfriend, despite the dire situation he’s in because, Geeta – get it? The film is filled with many such ridiculous moments where the narrative meanders from the tale at hand, that if paid attention to, shows how Guna’s character keeps getting pushed deeper into the rabbit hole. What could’ve been an interesting character study of a man forced to solve issues in the way he does in the gory climax (that completely plays to the gallery) turns into a film which tries too hard to deliver a conclusion. 

Karthikeya does his best to pour life into the titular character but sometimes goes over-the-top. He is plain okay till the second half when he comes to form. In case you’re wondering, yes, filmmakers are still obsessed with his ripped body. Anagha on the other hand shines even in parts that don’t offer her much. She particular delivers well in scenes that show grit despite her character’s love story with Guna seeming flat. The rest of the cast too does well with what they’re offered.

Had Arjun Jandhyala woven a tighter narrative minus the commercial distractions, the confused and numerous messages he’s trying to deliver might have had a chance to come through. But with a film as dense as this one with subpar dialogues, nothing in the film stands a chance! 

గుణ (కార్తికేయ) గొడవ పడితే చివరకి ఆ గొడవే మిగులుతుందని నమ్మి, అసలు గొడవలకే దూరంగా ఉండే ఓ సాఫ్ట్ కుర్రాడు. ఆయితే గుణ తొలి చూపులోనే గీత (ఆనఘ)తో ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. ఆమె వెంటపడుతూ గీతను కూడా తన ప్రేమలో పడేస్తాడు. ఇక అంతా హ్యాపీ అనుకుంటున్న సమయంలో గుణ జీవితంలో జరిగిన కొన్ని నాటకీయ సంఘటనల కారణంగా.. గుణ హింసామార్గాన్ని ఎలా ఎంచుకున్నాడు ? దానికి దారి తీసిన కారణాలు ఏమిటి ? తన పక్కనున్నవాళ్లు చేసిన తప్పుల వల్ల అతని జీవితానికి ఎలాంటి నష్టం కలిగింది ?

ఈ క్రమంలో గుణ లైఫ్ ఎటువంటి మలుపులు తిరిగింది ? ఫైనల్ గా గుణ తన జీవితం అలా మారడానికి కారణమైన వ్యక్తులకు ఎలాంటి శిక్ష వేశాడు ? తానూ ప్రాణంగా ప్రేమించిన గీతకు ఎలా దూరం అయ్యాడు ? గీత గుణకు దూరం కావడానికి కారణమైన వ్యక్తి ఎవరు ? అలాగే గుణ జీవితం అలా అవ్వడానికి కారణం ఎవరు ? లాంటి విషయాలు తెలియాలంటే ఈ చిత్రం చూడాల్సిందే !

దర్శకుడు అర్జున్ జంధ్యాల మొదటి అర్ధభాగాన్ని లవ్ సీన్స్ తో సరదాగా నడిపిన, సెకండాఫ్ ను భావోద్వేగ సన్నివేశాలతో యాక్షన్ సీక్వెన్స్ తో రివేంజ్ డ్రామాగా సినిమాని మలిచారు. మొత్తానికి సినిమాలోని కొన్ని లవ్ అండ్ యాక్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ బాగానే ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. మెయిన్ గా సాఫ్ట్ గా ఉండే ఓ కుర్రాడు, తన జీవితంలో తప్పనిసరిగా హింసామార్గాన్ని ఎంచుకున్నే సన్నివేశం ఎమోషనల్ గా కనెక్ట్ అవుతుంది.

ఇక ఒంగోలు ప్రాంతానికి చెందిన ఓ మిడిల్ క్లాస్ కుర్రాడి పాత్రలో నటించిన కార్తికేయ, ఆ పాత్రకు తగ్గట్లు తన లుక్ ను తన బాడీ లాంగ్వేజ్ ను మార్చుకోవడం.. అలాగే కొన్ని కీలకమైన సన్నివేశాల్లో ముఖ్యంగా క్లైమాక్స్ లో సెటిల్డ్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ తో, చాలా సహజంగా నటిస్తూ సినిమాకి హైలెట్ గా నిలచారు. తన తండ్రి సెల్ ఫోన్ స్టోర్ లో పనిచేసే అమ్మాయిగా నటించిన అనఘ తన గ్లామర్ తో పాటు, తన పెర్ఫార్మన్స్ తో.. అచ్చం ఓ సగటు తెలుగు అమ్మాయిగా చాలా బాగా నటించింది. లవ్ సీన్స్ తో పాటు సాంగ్స్ లో కూడా అనఘ నటన, ఆమె పలికించిన హావభావాలు చాల బాగున్నాయి.

హీరోకి తండ్రి పాత్రలో నటించిన నరేష్ ఎప్పటిలాగే తన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. యువ నటుడు మహేష్ కూడా తన పాత్రకు తగ్గట్లు చాలా బాగా నటించారు. ముఖ్యంగా క్లైమాక్స్ సీక్వెన్స్ లో మహేష్ నటన ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. ఇక మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్ర పరిధి మేరకు బాగానే చేశారు.

దర్శకుడు అర్జున్ జంధ్యాల వాస్తవ కథను ఆధారం చేసుకొని.. రెగ్యులర్‌ కమర్షియల్‌ స్టోరీలా కాకుండా, కాస్త భిన్నమైన ముగింపుతో రాసుకున్న ఈ కథ మెసేజ్ పరంగా.. స్టోరీ లైన్ పరంగా బాగానే ఉన్నా.. ఆ లైన్ ను పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగా దర్శకుడు కథాకథనాన్ని మాత్రం రాసుకోలేదు. హీరోకి తన జీవితంలో ఎదురయ్యే కొన్ని ఘర్షణ తాలూకు సన్నివేశాలు వాటికి దారి తీసిన సంఘటనలు కూడా పూర్తిగా ఆకట్టుకున్నే విధంగా ఉండవు.

దీనికి తోడు సినిమాలోని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు కూడా మరీ సినిమాటిక్ గా అనిపిస్తాయి. ముఖ్యంగా క్లైమాక్స్ లో మహేష్ పాత్ర ట్విస్ట్ పరంగా వర్కౌట్ అయినా, మరీ సినిమాటిక్ గా తేలిపోయినట్లు ఉంది. పైగా ఆ పాత్ర వల్ల హీరోకి జరిగిన నష్టం కూడా ఏదో ఫోర్స్ గా కావాలని పెట్టినట్లు ఉంది గాని, బలంగా నమ్మే విధంగా ఉండదు.

మొదటి భాగంలో హీరో హీరోయిన్ల మధ్య లవ్ ట్రాక్ సరదాగా సాగినప్పటికీ.. సెకెండాఫ్ లో ఆ లవ్ ట్రాక్ ఆధారంగా ఎమోషనల్ అండ్ రివేంజ్ డ్రామాను బాగానే ఎలివేట్ చేసినప్పటికీ అది బలంగా అనిపించదు. పైగా సెకెండాఫ్ లో కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు మరియు యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలను సాగతీసారు.

దర్శకుడు అర్జున్ జంధ్యాల క్లైమాక్స్ ను మరియు కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలను ఎమోషనల్ గా బాగా తెరకెక్కించినప్పటికీ.. తీసుకున్న స్టోరీ లైన్ కి పూర్తి స్థాయిలో ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగా ఆయన కథా కథనాలని రాసుకోలేకపోయారు. చైతన్ భరద్వాజ్ అందించిన బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ బాగుంది. ఆయన అందించిన పాటల్లో రెండు బాగున్నాయి.

రాంరెడ్డి సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. సినిమాలోని చాలా సన్నివేశాలను ఆయన ఎంతో రియలిస్టిక్ విజువల్స్ ను చాలా బ్యూటిఫుల్ గా చిత్రీకరించారు. తమ్మిరాజు ఎడిటింగ్ బాగుంది. కానీ అక్కడక్కడా ఉన్న కొన్ని సాగతీత సీన్స్ ను తగ్గించాల్సింది. నిర్మాతలు అనిల్ కడియాల, తిరుమల్ రెడ్డి, ప్రవీణ కడియాల ఎక్కడా కాంప్రమైజ్ కాకుండా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించారు. వాళ్ళ నిర్మాణ విలువులు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

అర్జున్ జంధ్యాల దర్శకత్వంలో కార్తికేయ – అన‌ఘ జంటగా వచ్చిన ఈ చిత్రంలో మెసేజ్ పరంగా.. స్టోరీ లైన్ పరంగా అలాగే లవ్ అండ్ ఎమోషనల్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ పరంగా మరియు కొన్ని మెప్పించే అంశాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ, ముఖ్యమైన కథనం నెమ్మదిగా సాగడం, హీరోకి తన జీవితంలో ఎదురయ్యే కొన్ని ఘర్షణ తాలూకు సన్నివేశాలు, వాటికి దారి తీసిన సంఘటనలు కూడా పూర్తిగా ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగా లేకపోవడం, దీనికి తోడు ట్రీట్మెంట్ కూడా ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగకపోవడం వంటి అంశాలు సినిమాకు బలహీనతలుగా నిలుస్తాయి. అయితే, కార్తికేయ ఎమోషనల్ అండ్ సెటిల్డ్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్, కొన్ని ప్రేమ సన్నివేశాలు మరియు హీరోకిి అతని తండ్రికి మధ్య వచ్చే కొన్ని ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్, అదేవిధంగా ఆసక్తికరంగా సాగే క్లైమాక్స్ ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ చిత్రం బి.సి సెంటర్ ప్రేక్షకులకు కొంతమేరకు కనెక్ట్ అవుతుంది.
