Story: Devadas (Kartikeya) is diagnosed with an alcohol syndrome at birth and is advised to drink three times a day. What happens when he falls in love with a physiotherapist called Suvasana (Neha Solanki) whose family despises drinkers?

Review:90ML is a film that tries to do it all. It gives you a love story filled with misunderstanding, angst and love so iconic, it requires both parties involved to cry buckets of tears. It gives you a hero who will drown alcohol three times a day and beat up goons like he had taken a spoonful of chyawanprash. A heroine who does not need him to save the day, because she’s more than capable of looking after herself, but loves him so wants him around. And more importantly, villains who will not just make your nose wrinkle in disgust but also tickle your funny bones when there’s a shortage of things to do.

Devadas (Kartikeya), named oh-so-aptly by his mother, has a fictional fetal/fatal (pronounced differently by different people in the film) alcohol syndrome and is given a fictional diagnosis by a doctor to partake alcohol three times a day. Now such a quirky diagnosis is bound to create some drama, so despite being a gold-medalist, the man finds it difficult to land a job. The only job he can ironically find is at a wine shop as a manager. To add more drama, he falls head-over-heels for do-gooder physiotherapist Suvasana (Neha Solanki) who comes from a straight-edge family that has RSS roots and empowers their women enough that they know how to fight back. So, it’s only natural that Devadas’ requirement to down 90ML liquor three times a day does not go down well with her or her family.

An issue that in real life could’ve been resolved with some good ol’ fashioned talking is instead dragged on in the film, with scenes of Suvasana misunderstanding and refusing to listen to Devadas getting repetitive. Thrown in the mix are the antagonists Seshu (Ajay), an alcohol supplier and the quirky/annoying Johnwick (Ravi Kishan) whose character is supposed to be funny and probably evil but never really comes across as such. These two just breeze and out of the film as and when required to move the story forward. Worthy adversaries they are not!

Kartikeya gets a role that requires him to dance like a dream and fight like a pro for the most part and he aces it completely. He does well even in scenes that require him to show his heartbreak and frustration, with the actor delivering well in a particular scene where his mother begs him to drink. But he definitely deserves a better film. Neha Solanki gets a beautiful, refreshing role that’s a far cry from the usually Tollywood heroines, if only she could act! She falters in scenes that require her to show versatility and is plain okay throughout.

Despite it all, the biggest drawback the film suffers from is the editing. None of the scenes blend into each other, especially when interspersed with subpar songs by Anup Rubens, and the film just ends up seeming like a mishmash of random scenes that lead to a forced yet predictable ending. What’s also troublesome is that despite the film clearly trying initially to not want to glorify drinking or having a hero who will harass a girl into loving him, falls and delivers those very tropes as the story progresses. The comedy too is pretty old-school and doesn’t always land.

90ML is a film for those who love mass-masala stories, anyone wanting more, give it a miss.

ఆర్‌ఎక్స్ 100 లాంటి చిత్రంతో యూత్‌లో ఎనలేని క్రేజ్‌ను సంపాదించుకున్నాడు హీరో కార్తికేయ. ముఖ్యంగా లేడీ ఫాలోయింగ్‌ను పెంచుకున్న ఈ యంగ్ హీరో.. హిప్పీ, గుణ 369 అంటూ విభిన్న కథా చిత్రాలతో పలకరించి విజయాలు అందుకున్నాడు. మరోసారి ప్రేక్షకులను అలరించేందుకు ఓ యూత్‌ఫుల్ ఎంటర్‌టైనర్‌ 90ML అంటూ ఈ వారం థియేటర్స్‌లోకి వచ్చేశాడు. మరి ఈ చిత్రం ఏ మేరకు ఆకట్టుకుందో ఓ సారి చూద్దాం.

కథ పుట్టుకతోనే ఓ అరుదైన వ్యాధికి గురవుతాడు దేవదాస్ (కార్తికేయ). అతని మూడు పూటల మూడు పెగ్గు (90 ml)ల మందే అతనికి మెడిసిన్ అంటూ డాక్లర్లు తేల్చి చెబుతారు. అలాంటి దేవదాస్‌కు సువాసన (నేహా సోలంకి) పరిచయమవుతుంది. సువాసన ఫ్యామిలీకి మందు వాసన అంటే నచ్చదు. అలాంటి కుటుంబానికి చెందిన సువాసన.. ఒక్క పూట మందు లేకపోతే చనిపోయే దేవదాస్‌ మధ్య జరిగే కథే 90 ML.

కథలో ట్విస్టులు.. దేవదాస్‌ తనకు ఉన్న జబ్బు గురించి సువాసనకు తెలుస్తుందా? ఆ నిజాన్ని చెప్పకుండా దాచిపెట్టడంతో ఎలాంటి పరిణామాలు జరిగాయి? ఈ కథలో జాన్‌విక్‌ (రవి కిషన్)కు ఉన్న సంబంధం ఏంటి? తన కూతురు సువాసనను క్షున్నాకర్ (రావు రమేష్) జాన్‌విక్‌కు ఇచ్చి చేసేందుకు ఎందుకు ఒప్పుకున్నాడు. సువాసన కోసం ఒక్క రోజు మందు తాగకుండా ఉండే కండీషన్‌కు ఒప్పుకున్న దేవదాస్‌కు ఏమైంది? అనే అంశాలు ఆసక్తికరంగా అనిపిస్తాయి.

ఫస్టాఫ్ అనాలిసిస్.. అరుదైన వ్యాధితో కొడుకు పుట్టడం, వాడు బతకాలంటే మూడు పూటల మందు తాగించాలని చెప్పడం.. పాలు తాగించాల్సిన తల్లే.. మద్యాన్ని పట్టించడం లాంటి సీన్లతో ప్రేక్షకులను కనెక్ట్ చేశాడు. ఇలాంటి ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్‌‌తో ప్రేక్షకులను కథలోకి లీనం చేశాడు. ఓ పిల్లాడిని కాపాడే ప్రయత్నంలో హీరో అనిపించుకున్న దేవదాస్‌ను.. సువాసన ఇష్టపడటం లాంటి సీన్లు రొటీన్‌గా అనిపిస్తాయి. మందు వాసన తగలకుండా బతికే ట్రాఫిక్ పోలీస్ క్షుణ్నాకర్ రావు (రావు రమేష్), అతని ఫ్యామిలీకి సంబంధించిన సీన్లు, జాన్‌విక్‌తో కామెడీ సీన్లను బాగానే ఉపయోగించుకుని ఫస్టాఫ్‌ను ఆకట్టుకునేలా నడిపించాడు. సువాసన దగ్గర తన అలవాటు గురించి బయట పడకుండా ఉండేందుకు చేసే ప్రయత్నాలు ఫర్వాలేదనిపిస్తాయి. దేవదాస్ మందు తాగుతాడన్న విషయాన్ని తెలుసుకున్న సువాసన బ్రేకప్ చెప్పడంతో ప్రథమార్థం ముగుస్తుంది. కామెడీ సీన్లు, కాసిన్ని ఎమోషనల్ సీన్లు, ప్రేమ సన్నివేశాలతో మాస్‌ను ఎంటర్‌టైన్ చేసే అవకాశం ఉంది.

సెకండాఫ్ అనాలిసిస్.. ఫస్టాఫ్‌ను ఎంటర్‌టైన్‌గా సాగగా.. ద్వితీయార్థం కాస్త ఎమోషనల్‌గా సాగుతూనే మరోవైపు కామెడీ ట్రాక్‌ను నడపడం ఆకట్టుకునే విధంగానే ఉంది. కామెడీ ట్రాక్ కోసం తీసుకున్న జాన్ విక్ (రవి కిషన్), ఆముదం (రోలర్ రఘు), బోజ్జా( ప్రభాకర్‌)ల సీన్లు వర్కౌట్ అయినట్టు కనిపిస్తుంది. దేవదాస్, సువాసన మధ్యలో జాన్‌విక్ రావడంతో కథ ఆసక్తికరంగా మారుతుంది. జాన్‌విక్ సువాసన ఇంటికి వెళ్లడం, అతని గ్యాంగ్‌ను కర్రసాముతో క్షుణ్ణ్నారావ్ (రావు రమేష్) కుటుంబం చితక్కొట్టడం హైలెట్ అనిపిస్తుంది. అయితే చివరకు జాన్‌విక్‌కు తన కూతురిని ఇచ్చి చేసేందుకు క్షుణ్ణ్నారావ్ ఒప్పుకోవడం దానికోసం దేవదాస్‌కు రోజంతా మద్యం తాగకూడదని కండీషన్ పెట్టడం బాగానే అనిపిస్తుంది. చివరకు సువాసనే మద్యం తాగించడం, దేవదాస్ విలన్ల పనిట్టడం లాంటి సీన్లు మాస్‌ను మెప్పించేలా ఉంటుంది. ప్రథమార్థాన్ని మించిన కామెడీ సీన్లు, ఎమోషనల్ సీన్లతో నిండిన సెకండాఫ్‌ అందరిని మెప్పించే అవకాశం ఉంది.

నటీనటులు దేవదాస్ పాత్రలో కార్తికేయ నూటికి నూరు పాళ్లు న్యాయం చేశాడు. ఇంతవరకు చూడని కార్తికేయను 90 MLలో చూస్తారు. యాక్షన్స్ సీన్స్‌లో, ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్‌లోనే కాకుండా డ్యాన్సులతోనూ మెప్పించాడు. దేవదాస్ పాత్రలో కార్తికేయ అన్ని రకాల ఎమోషన్స్‌ను పండించి సినిమా మొత్తాన్ని తన భుజాలపైనే మోశాడు. ఈ విషయంలో కార్తికేయ విజయం సాధించాడనే చెప్పవచ్చు. సువాసనగా నటించిన నేహా సోలంకి లుక్స్ పరంగానే కాకుండా, నటన పరంగానూ అందర్నీ మెప్పించేలా ఉంది. ఎమోషనల్ సీన్స్‌లోనూ నేహా చక్కగా నటించింది. రావు రమేష్ మరోసారి తన అనుభవాన్ని చూపించాడు. కొడుక్కు మందు పట్టించే స్థితి వస్తే ఆ తల్లి పడే బాధను ప్రగతి తన నటనలో చూపించింది. ఇన్నాళ్లు విలన్ రోల్స్ చేసిన సత్య ప్రకాశ్‌కు ఇదొక మంచి పాత్ర అని చెప్పవచ్చు. దేవదాస్ తండ్రిగా సత్య ప్రకాశ్ చక్కగా నటించాడు. రేసు గుర్రం తరువాత ఆ రేంజ్‌లో నటించాడు రవి కిషన్. విలనిజమే కాకుండా కామెడీ కూడా పండించాడు. ఇక మిగతా పాత్రల్లో నటించిన రోల్ రైడా, రోలర్ రఘు, పోసాని, అలీ, ప్రభాకర్ అందరూ తమ పరిధి మేరకు మెప్పించారు.

దర్శకుడి పనితీరు ఓ సినిమా ప్రేక్షకుల మదిలోకి నేరుగా వెళ్లాలంటే.. సరికొత్త పాయింట్‌తో వారి ముందుకు వెళ్లాలి. ఆ విషయంలో దర్శకుడు సక్సెస్ అయ్యాడనే చెప్పవచ్చు. మూడు పూటల మందు లేనిదే బతకని కుర్రాడు.. మందు అంటేనే పడని ఫ్యామిలీకి లింక్ పెట్టిన రాసుకున్న పాయింట్ ఈ సినిమాను ముందుకు నడిపించింది. ప్రేక్షకుల్లో అంచనాలను పెంచింది. ఆ అంచనాలు అందుకోవడంలో దర్శకుడు కూడా విజయం సాధించాడనే చెప్పవచ్చు. అయితే ఈ కొత్త పాయింట్‌కు పాత కథనాన్ని ఎంచుకోవడం కాస్త నిరాశ కలిగించే విషయం. అయినా సరే ప్రేక్షకుడిని ఎక్కడా కూడా బోర్ కొట్టించకుండా కథ నడపడంలో దర్శకుడి ప్రతిభ కనిపిస్తోంది. దర్శకుడిగానే కాకుండా తన మాటలతో కూడా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. ‘నా అలవాటు చెడ్డదేమో కానీ నేను చెడ్డవాన్ని కాదు', ‘కొడితే చచ్చే ప్రేమ కాదు.. చంపినా చావని ప్రేమ' లాంటి డైలాగ్‌లో ఉన్న ఎమోషన్ ఆకట్టుకుంది. ఈ రకంగా మొదటి ప్రయత్నంలోనే శేఖర్ రెడ్డి యెర్రా దర్శకుడిగా, రచయితగా విజయం సాధించాడని చెప్పవచ్చు.
