My Santa






Story: Aisa, who lost her parents as a child, is a Santa Claus fan. She firmly believes that Santa would take her to heaven to meet her parents, although her peers mock her. One night, to her surprise, Santa comes home, taking her on a magical and adventurous ride

Review: “If your wish is genuine, Santa will surely come to meet you,” says Aby, a teacher played by Sunny Wayne to his students in My Santa. A fantasy-cum-comedy drama directed by Sugeeth, My Santa revolves around this concept. There is love, friendship, longing and, of course, some magical moments, perhaps an inevitable ingredient of Christmas movies.

Aisa (Baby Manasvi) is a cheerful, curious little girl living in the high ranges. An ardent admirer of Santa Claus, she dreams of meeting the Christmas Papa one day. Only he can solve her problems, she believes. In fact, she pens her grievances to God, thinking they would be addressed through Santa. When she is on the verge of giving up hope and losing her faith in Santa, he dramatically enters her life. Is he for real? My Santa delves precisely into this.

What makes this Dileep-starrer watchable is its festive fervour. Primarily aimed at children, Sugeeth cleverly puts the charm of the mythical Santa Claus and his affection for children to good effect. He and writer Jemin Cyriac tap into the almost unreal feel of the season to drive home their concepts about love, peace and sacrifice. The beautiful, misty locale accentuates the mood while music by Vidyasagar backs it up very well. And, Dileep's comedy works mostly. The effort put by the art and visual effects department to create a magical land is commendable.

Dileep is convincing as Santa who rides a bullet with the number plate Dec 25, except for his clownish dialogue delivery at certain points. But it is Baby Manasvi who steals the show with her splendid acting, coming across easily as the loving, innocent and stubborn girl who unconditionally loves her friend Anna. Siddique, Sai Kumar, Dharmajan and Anusree add to the fun.

Towards the end, the movie turns a bit too dramatic, harming the cause of the narrative. All of a sudden, the happy, adventurous and fantasy trip gets replaced with the cliched family drama routine. Certain scenes like the one where a group of Santas dance on a street do not serve much purpose either.

In short, My Santa is a good Christmas entertainer, especially for the children.




ഐസമ്മ എന്ന് ചെല്ലപ്പേരുള്ള ഐസ എലിസബത്ത് ജേക്കബ്. പത്തുവയസുകാരി കുസൃതിക്കുട്ടി. അമ്മയും അച്ഛനും ഇല്ലാത്ത അവളുടെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ചെറിയ ലോകം. വീട്.. സ്കൂൾ.. കൂട്ടുകാർ.. വീട്ടുകാർ.. കുട്ടൂസൻ എന്നവൾ വിളിക്കുന്ന സ്വന്തം മുത്തശ്ശൻ. സുഗീതിന്റെ ക്രിസ്മസ് സിനിമയായ മൈ സാന്റയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലം ഇങ്ങനെയാണ്.

പക്ഷെ, സാധാരണ ഇത്തരം സിനിമകളുടെ ഒരു മെയിൻ ആയ സെന്റിമെൻറ്സും കരച്ചിലും നിലവിളിയും സുഗീത് മൈ സാന്റാ യിൽ തെല്ലും പുറത്തെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല. സന്തോഷവും സ്നേഹവുമാണ് സിനിമയുടെയും കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെയും മുഖമുദ്ര. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ മനസ് നിറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ആസ്വദിക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു ഉഗ്രൻ ക്രിസ്മസ് ഗിഫ്റ്റ് ആണ് ഈ സാന്റാ. റിയൽ ഫീൽഗുഡ്.

ദൈവത്തിന് തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുകുഞ്ഞ് ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് കത്തയക്കുന്നതാണ് ഐസാമ്മയുടെ പ്രധാന ഹോബി. തനിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട സാന്താ പപ്പയെ ദൈവം തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടങ്ങൾ പൂർത്തീകരിക്കാൻ ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക് അയക്കുമെന്ന് അവൾ ആത്മാർത്ഥമായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ഫാന്റസിയുടെ പാരമ്യത്തിൽ ഐസാമ്മയുടെ ഒരു രാത്രിയിലേക്ക് അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായി കടന്നുവരുന്നു സാന്റാ.

ഓർഡിനറി എന്ന ഒറ്റ സിനിമയിലൂടെ ഗവി എന്നൊരു പ്രദേശത്തെ തന്നെ കൾട്ട് ആക്കി മാറ്റി ടൂറിസ്റ്റുകളുടെ തള്ളിക്കയറ്റം സൃഷ്‌ടിച്ച ആളാണ് സുഗീത്. സാന്റായിലും വർണമനോഹരമാണ് ഓരോ ഫ്രയിമുകളും. ഊട്ടിയും പരിസരവുമാണ് ലൊക്കേഷൻ. ഛായാഗ്രാഹകൻ ഫൈസൽ അലി. വിഷ്വൽ പാക്കേജ് തന്നെ.

ലിറ്റിൽ സൂപ്പർസ്റ്റാർ എന്ന് നിസ്സംശയം വിളിക്കാവുന്ന മാനസ്വി കൊട്ടാച്ചി ആണ് സിനിമയുടെ ഉയിരും ആത്മാവും. ഇമൈക നൊടികളിൽ നയൻതാരയുടെയും വിജയ് സേതുപതിയുടെയും മകളായി വന്ന് നെഞ്ചേ തൊട്ട മാനസ്വി ഐസമ്മയായി മനസ്സിൽ കേറി കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ആ കുട്ടിയുടെ പേര് സിനിമയുടെ പിന്നണിക്കാർ വിക്കിപീഡിയയിൽ പോലും കൊടുത്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നത് എന്ത് പരാജയം ആണ്.

ക്ളൈമാക്സ് ആണ് പടത്തിന്റെ ഹൈലൈറ്റ്. സാധാരണ ഇത്തരം സിനിമകൾ പാളിപ്പോകുന്നതും മൂക്കുകുത്തുന്നതും തൃപ്തികരമല്ലാത്ത എൻഡിംഗുകളിൽ ആണ്. സ്ക്രിപ്റ്റിലൂടെ ജെമിൻ സിറിയക്കും മേക്കിംഗിലൂടെ സുഗീതും മൈ സാന്റയെ എവര്‍ മെമ്മറബിള്‍ ആയി ലാന്റ് ചെയ്തു. സണ്ണി വെയിൻ, അനുശ്രീ, സായികുമാർ, സിദ്ധിഖ്, ഷാജോൺ, ഇർഷാദ് തുടങ്ങി സ്‌ക്രീനിൽ വന്ന എല്ലാവരും നന്നായി. വിദ്യാസാഗർ പഴയ ഫോമിൽ അല്ലെങ്കിലും പടം മ്യൂസിക്കൽ ആണ്.

Maaran

Even as early as about five minutes into Maaran, it’s hard to care. The craft seems to belong in a bad TV serial, and the dialogues and performances don't help either. During these opening minutes, you get journalist Sathyamoorthy (Ramki) rambling on about publishing the ‘truth’, while it gets established that his wife is pregnant and ready to deliver ANY SECOND. A pregnant wife on the cusp of delivery in our 'commercial' cinema means that the bad men with sickles are in the vicinity and ready to pounce. Sometimes, it almost feels like they wait around for women to get pregnant, so they can strike. When the expected happens—as it does throughout this cliché-ridden film—you feel no shock. The real shock is when you realise that the director credits belong to the filmmaker who gave us Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, that the film stars Dhanush, from whom we have come to expect better, much better. Valimai

  H Vinoth's Valimai begins with a series of chain-snatching incidents and smuggling committed by masked men on bikes in Chennai. The public is up in arms against the police force, who are clueless. In an internal monologue, the police chief (Selva) wishes for a super cop to prevent such crimes. The action then cuts to Madurai, where a temple procession is underway.then we are introduced to ACP Arjun (Ajith Kumar), the film’s protagonist, whose introduction is intercut with scenes from the procession. Like a God who is held up high, we see this character rising up from the depths. In short, a whistle-worthy hero-introduction scene. We expect that Vinoth has done away with the mandatory fan service given his star's stature and will get around to making the film he wanted to make.
