Meendum Oru Mariyathai Movie Synopsis: A girl who decides to commit suicide owing to personal issues befriends a septuagenarian who has been abandoned by his son. A 10-day trip to an exotic place changes their respective lives.

Meendum Oru Mariyathai Movie Review: Meendum Oru Mariyathai is the unusual journey between a depressed young girl and an abandoned old man who is clueless about what to do next in life. Om (Bharathiraaja), a septuagenarian, is a man who embraces traditional values. His visit to the UK with wife, to be with his son’s family, turns tragic as he loses the better-half in an unexpected turn of events. After some time, he leaves his son’s family as he doesn't want to be a burden for them. He accidentally meets Venba (Nakshatra), a young girl, who is hell-bent on committing suicide due to personal issues. Om tries to persuade her from taking her life and promises to instill happiness in a span of 10 days and asks her to join him for an interesting journey.

With an intriguing plot, what works for the film is the performance of both the lead artistes. But the below-par production quality and dramatic dialogues spoil the essence of several sequences. The take on life is interesting without being preachy, but the lack of detailing for the other characters makes it hard to connect to the proceedings after a point. What starts off as a decent narration eventually turns out into a tiring outing.


சென்னை: வாழ்வை முடித்துக்கொள்ள நினைக்கும் இளம் பெண்ணுக்கும் வாழ்ந்து முடிந்தவருக்குமான நட்பு பயணம்தான், மீண்டும் ஒரு மரியாதை. லண்டனில் செட்டிலாகிவிட்ட மகன், கிராமத்து அப்பா பாரதிராஜாவையும் அம்மா மவுனிகாவையும் அங்கு அழைத்துச் செல்கிறான். அங்குள்ள கலாசாரம் முற்றிலும் வேறாக இருக்கிறது. மவுனிகா எதிர்பாராமல் இறக்கிறார். பிறகு அப்பாவை, முதியோர் இல்லத்தில் சேர்க்கிறார் மகன். அங்கிருந்து ஒரு பயணத்தை தொடர்கிறார் அவர்.

தற்கொலை முடிவில் இதற்கிடையே, சொந்தப் பிரச்னை காரணமாகத் தற்கொலை முடிவில் இருக்கும் நட்சத்திராவை சந்திக்கிறார். தற்கொலை எதுவுக்கும் தீர்வல்ல என்று அட்வைஸ் செய்துவிட்டு, வாழ்க்கை எவ்வளவு அழகானது என்பதை அவருக்குப் புரியவைக்க பத்து நாட்கள் தன்னோடு வருமாறு அழைக்கிறார். செல்கிறார் அவர். இந்தப் பயணத்தில் வாழ்க்கையை அவருக்குப் புரிய வைத்தாரா, அடுத்து என்ன நடந்தது என்பதுதான் கதை.

நட்சத்திரா பொதுவாக அவர் படங்களின் வசனங்களில் ஒரு கவித்துவம் இருக்குமே, அது இதில் மிஸ்சிங். நாயகியாக நடித்திருக்கும் நட்சத்திராவின் நடிப்பு ரசிக்கும்படி இருக்கிறது. அம்மாவாக வரும் மவுனிகா, ஜோ மல்லூரி உட்பட பலர் நடித்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் எந்த கேரக்டரும் மனதில் பதிய வில்லை. வசனங்களும் காட்சி அமைப்புகளும் அவ்வளவு அலுப்பு.

என்னாச்சு இமயமே? சாலை சகாதேவனின் ஒளிப்பதிவு லண்டன் அழகை அப்படியே அள்ளிவது தருகிறது. பின்னணி இசை நன்றாக இருக்கிறது. பாடல்கள் வேகத்தடை. வழக்கமாக, பாரதிராஜா படங்களில் இருக்கும் மேஜிக் மேக்கிங், இதில் சுத்தமாக இல்லையே...ஏன், என்னாச்சு இமயமே?

This is apparent as early as its first scene, where its protagonist Saravanan alias Freud squirms in his bed, suspecting a bad omen. Maaran

Even as early as about five minutes into Maaran, it’s hard to care. The craft seems to belong in a bad TV serial, and the dialogues and performances don't help either. During these opening minutes, you get journalist Sathyamoorthy (Ramki) rambling on about publishing the ‘truth’, while it gets established that his wife is pregnant and ready to deliver ANY SECOND. A pregnant wife on the cusp of delivery in our 'commercial' cinema means that the bad men with sickles are in the vicinity and ready to pounce. Sometimes, it almost feels like they wait around for women to get pregnant, so they can strike. When the expected happens—as it does throughout this cliché-ridden film—you feel no shock. The real shock is when you realise that the director credits belong to the filmmaker who gave us Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, that the film stars Dhanush, from whom we have come to expect better, much better. Mehandi Circus

                   In Mehandi Circus, romance is in the air. Somewhat literally. For, the hero and heroine fall in love to the sounds of Ilaiyaraaja songs and Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam from Dilli Ka Thug. The guy is Jeeva (debutant Madhampatti Rangaraj, not-so-expressive), who has a music cassette shop in Poompaarai, Kodaikanal. The girl, Mehandi (Shweta Tripathi, impressive in her Tamil debut) is a performer in a circus that has come to the place. Mehandi’s father (Sunny Charles), who also runs the circus, is wary of encouraging this relationship, for Jeeva’s father, Rajangam (Marimuthu) calls the shots in the village. Rajangam is also casteist, so much that he will not even let a worker enter his living room to talk over the phone to his mother, who is critical! While the framing device, involving Mehandi’s teenage daughter, Nisha (Pooja), who comes in search of Jeeva, of Mehandi Circus, is set in 2010, much of the film happens ...
